Job Description
We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Lubrication Technician to join our United Utilities maintenance team, playing a vital role in keeping our assets performing at their very best. This is a permanent, field-based position that offers a high level of autonomy, perfect for someone who thrives on responsibility, takes real pride in delivering exceptional standards, and enjoys the freedom to manage their own day.
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our maintenance strategy, delivering a high-quality lubrication, monitoring and reporting service that directly supports asset reliability and maximises performance across our network. Every day brings variety – you’ll start from home and travel to multiple wastewater sites across North West Cumbria, making a visible and meaningful impact on the smooth running of essential infrastructure.
To set you up for success, you’ll be provided with a company van, giving you the flexibility to travel directly from home to site and between locations. This means greater efficiency, more control of your schedule, and true ownership of your working day. If you’re someone who enjoys working independently, values trust and accountability, and wants to make a difference in a role where no two days are the same, this could be the perfect fit for you
The Role
As a Lubrication Technician, you will deliver lubrication best practice across our wastewater asset base. Working largely independently, you will plan and manage your own daily activities, ensuring assets are cared for safely, effectively and consistently across multiple sites. Most tasks will be carried out alone, with occasional two person activities, and you will collaborate when required with process controllers, field service engineers and the wider maintenance team.
Key Accountabilities
You will be responsible for delivering an effective lubrication service across assets identified within the maintenance strategy. You will carry out lubrication activities on wastewater operational sites, ensuring work is completed to the required standard and confirmed at the correct frequencies. Your responsibilities will also include:
- Completing minor remedial work on lubrication systems, including adjustments and improvements, in line with your competence and training
- Carrying out detailed human senses inspections during site visits and raising follow on work where required
- Defining and updating alternative components within the corporate asset register to ensure appropriate lubrication tasks are deployed
- Managing lubricant and material stock levels within local oil stores
- Storing and disposing of oil contaminated waste safely and correctly
- Ensuring all lubricants are stored and handled in line with United Utilities best practice
- Using predictive technologies to analyse, trend and condition grease critical assets where identified by the central maintenance strategy
- Taking and submitting lubricant samples for analysis when required
- Reviewing and understanding sample results, determining the appropriate course of action and completing or raising further work as needed
Skills & Experience
To be considered for this role, you will need five GCSEs including Maths and English at grade C or 4 to 9 or equivalent, along with practical lubrication experience and a background in maintenance or mechanical engineering.
You will also bring:
- A self-motivated and self-directed approach, with the confidence to work independently and take ownership of your work
- Strong organisation and self-management skills, enabling you to plan, prioritise and deliver your workload effectively across multiple sites
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with process controllers, field service engineers and other stakeholders
- An awareness of the Water Industry and how it operates
- A proactive and logical approach to problem solving, with the ability to identify issues early and take appropriate action
Why This Role
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build autonomy, develop specialist technical skills and gain wide exposure across wastewater operations. You will be trusted to manage your own work, supported by a strong team and equipped with the tools and resources, including a company car, to do the job well. It is an ideal role for someone looking to grow their expertise, increase their visibility and make a tangible impact on asset performance.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary and excellent benefits package
- 26 days’ holiday (rising to 30 with service) plus bank holidays
- Up to 14% employer pension contribution (21% combined)
- Up to 10.5% annual bonus
- Private medical care
- Gym discounts, EV car scheme, ShareBuy and flexible benefits package
- Hybrid working to support work‑life balance
- Professional development, training and career progression
If you are organised, motivated and ready to take ownership of a critical role within United Utilities, we encourage you to apply and take the next step in your development.
