Job Purpose

To provide Electrical Engineering support including design and technical engineering advice to all areas of UU. You will operate within delivery teams and work closely and maintain strong relationships with other disciplines and internal clients. You will be responsible for technical outputs within your UU Engineering Discipline team.

The role is within the Engineering team located at Lingley Mere and federated into the Merseyside Water team.

Future allocation to work in other teams within the Electrical Engineering Department will be at the discretion of the Chief Electrical Engineer.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Working closely and maintaining strong relationships with other disciplines and internal clients.
  • Responsible for the delivery of a range of projects and providing technical engineering advice throughout UU, including data gathering and analysis, design, preparation of documents, drawings, calculations and specifications.
  • Review of proposals produced by others and providing advice and responses to other team members.
  • Areas of responsibility will include the capital programme, operational support and studies & investigations.
  • Responsible for the technical delivery of projects within budget and programme to all internal clients.
  • Deputise for a Senior Engineer when requested.
  • Raise the profile of UU Electrical Engineering in the water industry and other sectors by submission of technical papers or assistance to STEM activities.
  • Development & improvement of UU’s Engineering standards and procedures.
  • Undertake all activities in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and Accepted Practice, ensuring all training and processes are adhered to.
  • Adopt the role of Designer in accordance with CDM.
  • To undertake all activities in accordance with an appropriate Quality Management System e.g. checked and verified calculations, drawings, specifications, and United Utilities’ Company Standards.
  • To maintain and develop their own engineering expertise

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Electrically qualified engineer with some postgraduate or equivalent experience
  • Technically competent with an ability to influence technical solutions across the whole of UU
  • Have a knowledge and experience of industry and company techniques and technologies for Instrument, Control & Automation (ICA) and detailed knowledge of HV & LV power distribution/utilisation.
  • Working knowledge of general arrangements for electrical equipment and the integration of these into building envelopes and site layouts.
  • Experience in being part of multi-disciplinary team in a technical environment, delivering capital / strategic projects and providing operational support in the water industry or other sectors.
  • Understanding of the project lifecycle from front end engineering design (FEED) through to detailed design, technical assurance, testing & commissioning and final handover.
  • Knowledge and experience of company standards, procedures and technologies and have knowledge of the operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of the proposed engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience of process and construction risks analysis techniques such as ARM, HAZOP, HAZCON, HAZCOM.
  • The post holder will also be able to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences, with some experience in presenting technical papers.
  • The post holder will demonstrate a personal commitment and encourage commitment in others to safety in all aspects of work.
  • The post holder will be required to work autonomously and as a member of a team.

Essential Qualification:

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
  • Full UK Driving License
