The Role
Are you a proactive problem-solver with a passion for delivering excellent customer outcomes? As a Drainage Delivery Technician, you'll be at the forefront of resolving complex drainage network issues, tackling incidents that require specialist investigation and expertise when a first-time fix hasn't been possible.
Working across our network, you'll play a vital role in improving drainage performance, reducing customer impacts, and helping to keep our communities flowing. As the local technical expert, you'll use your knowledge and analytical skills to identify root causes, develop effective solutions, and contribute to long-term performance improvement plans that make a real difference.
What you'll be doing
- Investigate and resolve complex wastewater network incidents, identifying root causes and implementing long-term solutions to prevent repeat failures.
- Analyse network performance data and trends to improve drainage performance, customer outcomes, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Support the development of planned maintenance programmes, investment proposals, and proactive interventions across the wastewater network.
- Act as a local technical expert, providing guidance and support to operational teams and key stakeholders.
- Take ownership of escalated customer issues, managing expectations and delivering excellent customer service.
- Prepare responses for customers, MPs, councillors, and other stakeholders, and attend customer visits where required.
- Ensure asset, operational, and regulatory data is accurate, complete, and maintained to required standards.
- Contribute to incident reviews, pollution prevention initiatives, significant event reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Champion safe working practices, compliance with company policies and environmental regulations, and embrace new technologies that enhance network visibility and performance.
- Participate in the standby rota and provide support during network incidents and emergency response activities.
What we're looking for
- Full UK driving license
- BTEC in Sewerage Engineering (or equivalent recognised qualification).
HNC in civil engineering (or related subject) is desirable. - Health and Safety, including CDM, NRSWA, manual handling and confined spaces.
- Establishes and maintains up to date knowledge in their ‘expert’ field.
- Good understanding of IT systems and their capabilities.
- Commercial awareness - able to identify opportunities.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of day-to-day drainage system and associated maintenance techniques.
- Excellent wastewater regulatory understanding.
- Good understanding of the Network Maintenance Alliances / Service providers.
- Reporting and presentation skills (both oral and written)
- Ability to interface with customers and provide excellent customer service.
- Capable of using own initiative and working under pressure.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills - able to work to deadlines and achieve personal objectives.
You must be able to evidence all qualifications and certifications required for this role.
