Development Senior Manager - Machine Learning

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Engineering Leader to lead a high-performing team building distributed systems that power AI and large language model (LLM) capabilities at scale. In this role, you will define technical direction, foster innovation, and ensure your team delivers impactful, production-grade systems that shape the future of SAP’s AI offerings.

Description

As the leader of a fast-moving and collaborative team, you will guide the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for growing and mentoring engineering talent, setting technical priorities, and working closely with cross-functional partners to align on vision and execution. We’re seeking someone who thrives in ambiguous environments, can connect high-level strategy to concrete deliverables, and inspires engineers to achieve their best work.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and inspire a team of engineers delivering backend systems, APIs, databases, and LLM infrastructure
Define and communicate technical vision, ensuring alignment with product and business goals
Collaborate with product managers, researchers, and architects to translate ideas into scalable solutions
Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement
Provide hands-on technical guidance where needed, ensuring high-quality code and architecture
Oversee projects leveraging modern distributed systems, data platforms, and API frameworks
Build team capabilities through mentoring, recruitment, and career development initiatives
Work with customers in different geo locations, understand requirements and build scalable solution under the forward deploy engineering development model

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field; advanced degree preferred
12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 7 years in an engineering leadership role
Proven track record of delivering complex, distributed systems in production
Strong understanding of AI/ML and/or LLM systems and their application in real-world products
Experience managing managers and teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments
Strong decision-making skills and ability to balance technical depth with business priorities
Excellent English communication skills and ability to lead in global, multicultural environments

Preferred Qualifications

Experience scaling engineering teams and processes in enterprise environments
Open-source contributions or engagement in the AI/ML community
Familiarity with modern development practices, CI/CD, and cloud-native architectures

Principales responsabilités

· Diriger et inspirer une équipe d’ingénieurs qui produisent des systèmes dorsaux, des API, des bases de données et une infrastructure LLM

· Définir et communiquer la vision technique, en veillant à son alignement avec les objectifs du produit et de l’entreprise

· Collaborer avec les gestionnaires de produits, les chercheurs et les architectes afin de transformer les idées en solutions évolutives

· Favoriser la culture d’excellence technique, d’innovation et d’amélioration permanente

· Fournir un accompagnement technique et pratique au besoin, en veillant à la qualité du code et de l’architecture

· Superviser les projets qui exploitent des systèmes distribués modernes, des plateformes de données et des infrastructures d’API

· Développer les compétences de l’équipe par le mentorat, le recrutement et des initiatives de développement de carrière

· Travailler avec des clients situés dans différentes régions, comprendre leurs besoins et concevoir des solutions évolutives dans le cadre du modèle Forward deploy engineering (ingénierie déployée en amont)

Qualifications minimales

· Baccalauréat en informatique, mathématiques, physique ou dans un domaine connexe, diplôme d’études supérieures souhaité

· Au moins 12 ans d’expérience en génie logiciel, avec au moins 7 ans à un poste de direction de l’ingénierie

· Expérience avérée dans la livraison de systèmes distribués complexes en production

· Bonne compréhension des systèmes IA/ML et/ou LLM et de leur application dans des produits concrets

· Expérience en gestion de responsables et d’équipes dans des environnements dynamiques à forte croissance

· Solides compétences en prise de décision et capacité à concilier l’expertise technique et les priorités commerciales

· Excellent niveau d’anglais et capacité à diriger au sein d’environnements multiculturels internationaux

Qualifications souhaitées

· Expérience dans le développement d’équipes d’ingénierie et de processus dans des environnements d’entreprise

· Contributions open-source ou implication dans la communauté IA/ML

· Familiarité avec les pratiques de développement modernes, les CI/CD et les architectures natives en nuage

The targeted annual combined range for this position is 216900-537300CAD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process.
