What you`ll do:
As an Engineering Manager (f/m/d) for ABAP Cloud Infrastructure in Brno you will lead and mentor an Empowered Product Team (EPT), which develops and provides key infrastructure components for the SAP BTP ABAP Environment. SAP BTP ABAP Environment is the SAP Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering for ABAP development that enables developers to leverage their traditional on-premise ABAP know-how to develop and run ABAP applications in the SAP Business Technology Platform, either as extension to SAP software or as standalone applications.


Having a passion for people leadership as well as deep knowledge of and experience in the technical domain would be an ideal combination for this role. The role combines managerial component ownership and accountability for the future success of ABAP Cloud Infrastructure Brno by leveraging the new harmonized product operating model (HPOM). You team up closely with your peers in Engineering and Product Management.


In addition to your role as technical adviser for your team, you lead from a people manager perspective. This includes the support of your direct reports in achieving their goals and helping them to identify development opportunities. It’s your role to foster a mindset of continuous learning and to create a collaborative, agile, and flexible work environment where innovation flourishes and open communication and individual contributions are valued.


In your role you will:

  • manage the ABAP Cloud Infrastructure Brno team by building action plans and making operational decisions on policies, tactics, resources critical to the team success to ensure delivery against the overall ABAP Platform strategy
  • make day to day decisions within or for your team and working collaboratively with your direct reports towards the team goals
  • be accountable for annual goals established for team or department
  • perform change management in a professional manner
  • listen openly and attentively to fully understand ideas and opinions within the team


What you bring:

  • University degree in computer science, engineering, or related fields
  • At least 8 years of professional working experience in software development
  • Ideally, some years of proven experience in successfully leading core technology teams in a leadership role
  • Proven experience in successfully driving projects
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing multiple stakeholders
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude and the ability to drive topics forward
  • Domain know-how in ABAP Platform or Cloud Infrastructure, enabling you to assume full managerial responsibility of its technical component portfolio
  • Solid understanding of cloud native product development and delivery principles
  • Solid understanding of IaaS and Hyperscaler offerings and concepts
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Fluency in Czech and English is a must. Being able to speak German is an advantage


Meet your team:
The ABAP Cloud Infrastructure department within the ABAP Platform organization is responsible for developing fully automated configuration, maintenance and operations tools utilized to operate over 3,000+ BTP ABAP Cloud systems in the cloud. Our department team is accountable for the entire lifecycle of our customer systems, providing centralized maintenance tools that ensure uninterrupted operations. Our role necessitates a harmonious balance between resolving technical challenges and coordinating with multiple internal stakeholders. We are currently engaged in innovative initiatives such as Zero Downtime Upgrades, Sovereign Cloud, and we are working in a technology partnership with leading IaaS/hyperscaler providers.
