PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Join an innovative, collaborative development environment and help shape the next generation of SAP HANA Cloud Big Data Fabric Services (BDFS).
We are looking for a Development Manager who combines strong people leadership with deep technical judgment and a passion for building high-performing engineering teams. You will lead a Scrum team according to the HPOM way of working and will be accountable for team development, engineering execution, and the delivery of secure, scalable, and maintainable cloud products. The ideal candidate brings a balanced focus on people, product, and engineering excellence - creating an environment in which individuals grow, teams thrive, and customers receive high-quality outcomes.
THE PRODUCT
SAP HANA Cloud Big Data Fabric Services helps customers access, process, store, and share data across SAP and non-SAP landscapes. The portfolio combines cloud-native big data technologies with SAP platform
integration to deliver scalable and cost-effective data services. BDFS leverages Apache Spark, Kubernetes, object store technology, and open data-sharing capabilities to support big data ingestion, processing, and governed access. Our services are designed for enterprise-grade multi-tenancy, security, reliability, and seamless integration with SAP BTP, SAP HANA Cloud, and SAP Data Lakehouse scenarios.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Development Manager, you will be responsible for a Scrum team and will serve both as its technical leader and people manager. You will assume end-to-end accountability for engineering progress, team effectiveness, and successful product delivery.
As a Technical Lead, you will:
- Assume full ownership of development and engineering progress, ensuring alignment, accountability, and successful product delivery
- Provide expert technical guidance and establish engineering best practices that improve product development, quality, and operational readiness
- Lead with a hands-on mindset, using deep technical expertise to inspire, guide, and support the team
- Ensure the team delivers committed features on time, with transparent planning, risk management, and stakeholder communication
- Facilitate innovative solutions to complex technical problems and encourage collaborative, proactive problem-solving
- Drive the development of secure, robust, scalable, and maintainable software in accordance with quality assurance processes and product standards
- Mentor engineers and cultivate a culture of continuous learning, technical accountability, and professional growth
- Partner with product management, architects, operations, and other engineering teams to translate strategy into executable plans and sustainable product capabilities
As a People Manager, you will:
- Manage and develop individuals and teams, creating an environment that supports personal growth, professional development, and psychological safety
- Build and nurture a high-performing team with a strong emphasis on engineering excellence, ownership, inclusion, and positive social interaction
- Lead initiatives to attract and hire top talent from within and outside the organization and ensure effective onboarding and integration
- Set clear and achievable goals with team members, provide inspiration and support, and evaluate performance transparently and fairly
- Provide regular coaching and actionable feedback to help employees strengthen their skills, broaden their impact, and advance their careers
- Support team members in defining ambitious development goals and collaborate across functions on broader organizational priorities
- Drive and actively participate in the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP), continuously refining team practices, engineering processes, and ways of working
- Contribute as a management stakeholder to the creation of sustainable, high-quality components that integrate seamlessly into SAP products
WHAT YOU BRING
Required skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- Proven experience as a Development Manager, Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, or in a comparable leadership role within a software engineering organization
- Strong technical background in software development and engineering, especially cloud-native development and distributed systems
- Experience leading teams that design, build, test, operate, and continuously improve enterprise-grade software products
- Excellent leadership and people-management skills, with a demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and grow high-performing teams
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, including the ability to balance delivery, quality, technical debt, and long-term architecture
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and build trusted relationships across organizational levels
- Experience with agile development practices and a strong understanding of Scrum, continuous integration, quality engineering, and operational excellence and a collaborative mindset, high level of ownership, and passion for fostering an innovative and inclusive work environment
Preferred skills
- Experience with cloud deployment technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of Apache Spark, object stores, data platforms, distributed computing, or data-sharing technologies
- Experience operating multi-tenant cloud services with strong security, reliability, observability, and scalability requirements
- Experience working in a global development organization and leading teams across organizational or geographic boundaries and familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering tools and modern engineering productivity practices.

You will work with your team on SAP HANA Cloud Big Data Fabric Services. The products we develop help customers access data from anywhere and use it securely and efficiently across enterprise landscapes.
The Big Data Fabric Services team is responsible for:
- eExtending and completing the SAP Data Platform with big data technologies and strategic third-party partnerships, enabling SAP Lines of Business and customers to benefit from big data capabilities
- Leveraging Apache Spark and object store technology to provide scalable and cost-effective computing and storage services for big data ingestion, processing, and sharing
- Integrating with SAP BTP, SAP HANA Cloud, and SAP Data Lakehouse to offer a unified development and deployment experience across SAP Lines of Business
- Ensuring enterprise-grade multi-tenancy, secure data processing, reliability, and operational excellence
- Building an agile and collaborative culture in which ownership, inclusion, and knowledge sharing are actively fostered
