We're the foundation team that codes to solve problems for numerous engineering teams within SAP Concur. We're a team of software engineers with one common goal - to meet engineers where they are and partner with them along the journey.

Working in the Foundation team at SAP Concur, you will collaborate with highly skilled engineers across different disciplines to plan, implement, and deliver innovative change.

We’re looking for people with a strong interest in systems. We’d love to hear from you whether you’ve just learned or already have experience. You will also be a good candidate if coming from a UI position and interested in crossing the line into backend. It’s not expected that any single candidate would have experience across all the required areas below. If you have an interest in systems and would like to gain more experience, then this could be a good opportunity for you. The team is primarily based in Bellevue, WA office and with a few spread across our Prague and Brazil offices.

Projects you could be working on:

We have a lot of important work to get done and we’re in a position to mentor and teach, which is why we are looking at all levels of experience. Of course, our projects are constantly changing, but we hope the below will give you an idea of the types of work we do and your day to day responsibilities.

  • Plan and implement migrating existing terraform runs from local to server side
  • Implement request tracing by making it easier for an engineer, when debugging, to trace a request from its source down to every service it touched and help increase our observability
  • Help us instantly roll back bad deploys so that we can recover quickly
  • Build infrastructure that lets us scale up our API workers in seconds in response to high API load
  • Change existing infrastructure to support high availability
  • Create a Kubernetes controller for signing SSH keys
  • Submit a PR to an open source project for a feature/bug/enhancement

Requirements:

  • Desired skills include proficiency in a modern programming language, databases, and modern software delivery practices
  • Think about systems – their edge cases, failure modes, and lifecycles
  • Know your way around a shell
  • Experience of any of the following will also be advantageous:
    • Docker on Linux & Windows
    • Kubernetes
    • Amazon Web Services
    • Vault
  • A general understanding of scalable and secure design patterns for the Cloud
  • Technical curiosity and passion for learning
  • Be able to work in a geographically diverse work force
  • Participating in a fully agile software development team, collaborating with product owners to prioritize requirements and with a focus on delivering small chunks of functionally complete software in an iterative sprint cycle
  • A DevOps oriented approach, creating and maintaining delivery pipelines that support continuous integration and deployment into production and actively monitoring, assessing and tweaking the health of those services
  • A quality focused mind-set, being able to analyze and mitigate risk in the system and recognizing that quality is owned by every member of the agile team
  • Being able to implement automated tests at all applicable levels (unit, integration, end to end) using a range of technologies

Ability to meet SAP Concur, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
