Job Description

Want a placement year where you actually build real skills?
At Pod, you won’t be shadowing or making the tea. You’ll be speaking to real customers, learning how a commercial sales team works, and helping more people switch to electric vehicles - all while developing confidence, resilience and career‑ready skills.

About Pod

We’re Pod – one of the UK’s leading EV charging providers, trusted by over 250,000 customers and powering more than 5 million miles every single day. But behind the numbers is a team of passionate people working together to shape a smarter, more sustainable future.

We started off in 2009 as Pod Point, helping people make the switch to electric as EVs began to hit the road. Today, we’re leading the way into a smarter energy future. Now part of the EDF Family, a global leader in low-carbon energy, we're giving people and communities the power move confidently through electrification.

We’re proud to be the trusted charging partner for leading automotive brands like Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW, and Kia; home builders Barratt and Bellway; and retail giants including Tesco. Our smart charging solutions don’t just support EV drivers - they help balance the grid, lower costs, and make clean energy accessible to everyone.
About your Placement Year
This 12‑month placement sits within our Sales (Partnerships) team and is ideal if you’re interested in sales, business, sustainability, or customer‑facing roles.

You’ll work with warm leads referred by our automotive partners and inbound customer enquiries - meaning you’re speaking to people who are already interested. You’ll learn how to understand customer needs, explain solutions clearly, and guide people through a purchase decision in a supportive, ethical way.

This is a target‑driven environment, but you’ll be fully supported, trained and coached throughout your year.

The day to day
During your placement year, you’ll:

  • Speak with customers via outbound calls, live chat and emails using warm leads
  • Convert new and existing leads into customers
  • Understand customer needs, home setups and charging requirements
  • Explain Pod’s products and services in a clear, friendly way
  • Guide customers through the purchase journey while working towards targets
  • Keep customer and sales information accurate in our CRM system
  • Work closely with Marketing, Product and Operations teams
  • Act as an advocate for EV adoption and sustainable transport
  • Represent Pod’s values in every customer interaction

What you'll learn & develop

By the end of your placement year, you’ll have developed:

  • Confidence speaking with customers in a professional environment
  • Strong communication, listening and questioning skills
  • Resilience and self‑belief in a fast‑paced, target‑driven role
  • Core sales and persuasion skills you can use in any future career
  • Time management and organisation in a busy working environment
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of how sales teams drive growth
  • Experience working collaboratively within a supportive team

These are highly transferable skills that employers value across sales, marketing, consulting, operations and graduate roles.

What are we looking for?
You don’t need previous sales experience. We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Curious, motivated and keen to learn
  • Comfortable speaking with people (or excited to build that confidence)
  • Interested in sales, business, sustainability or the EV industry
  • Adaptable and able to adjust their approach for different customers
  • Customer‑focused and enjoys helping people solve problems

Customer‑facing experience is a bonus, but attitude and willingness to learn matter most.

Why Pod?

  • Real responsibility from day one
  • Support, coaching and development throughout the year
  • A friendly, inclusive and values‑driven culture
  • Hybrid working
  • The chance to contribute to a business driving real environmental change
  • A strong foundation for graduate roles and future careers
