Job Description

The future is quantum. Oxford Ionics is a high-performance quantum computing company delivering world-leading innovations to create the most powerful, accurate and reliable quantum computers to solve the world's most important problems. Quantum Computing offers a radically new way of building computers that harnesses the power of quantum physics to outperform conventional supercomputers exponentially. Using our unique trapped-ion technology, we are at the forefront of the race to unleash the real potential of quantum computing.

What to expect

Oxford Ionics is part of the dynamic and growing ecosystem of quantum computing. With a distinctive vision, groundbreaking technology and exceptional people we are poised to play a pivotal role in the quantum computing revolution.

We are looking for a dynamic and insightful individual to build and lead our marketing function. This role will be instrumental in:

  • Developing our brand and positioning.
  • Creating awareness and understanding of Oxford Ionics.
  • Attracting customers, talent, and partners to work with Oxford Ionics.

The ideal candidate will likely currently manage a marketing team and is looking to go back to having the chance to spend time doing things. The role starts as an individual contributor role, where the Head of Marketing will be expected to produce materials and deliver value with their own contributions. As the role develops, the role will transition into having a larger share of management responsibility, where the Head of Marketing will be expected to assemble and run a high-performing marketing team.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Strategic branding: Building and promoting the Oxford Ionics brand for long-term success. Initiatives under this responsibility include defining and iterating our brand strategy, creating and managing brand assets, running impactful campaigns to ensure Oxford Ionics becomes top of mind across all audiences.
  • Company positioning and communication strategy: Develop Oxford Ionics’ market positioning by taking into account our corporate strategy, our technology roadmap and the positioning of competitors.
  • Performance marketing campaigns: As our technology progresses and we move into revenue generation, the marketing team will develop targeted marketing campaigns to generate leads and support business development/sales efforts.
  • Measuring impact: As a science and engineering business, Oxford Ionics places great value on data and measurement. The Head of Marketing will define appropriate KPIs to measure and demonstrate the impact of the marketing function, both in brand building and performance marketing efforts.
  • Functional development: The successful candidate will be able to bring a sense of “what good looks like” to the organisation, promoting and educating the team on the value of marketing and in best practice approaches.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure marketing strategies align with product development and sales objectives. Engage with key industry stakeholders, partners, and clients to foster relationships and partnerships.
  • Team Leadership: In due course, and at a pace appropriate to the development of the company, we would expect the Head of Marketing to bring on a select number of high-quality individuals and create a high-performing marketing team.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field and a proven track record of success in similar positions. Experience in deep tech or emerging tech markets within a startup environment is essential.

Your ability to quickly understand and clearly communicate complex technological concepts will be vital, as well as your strategic and analytical thinking skills, which will help you turn insights into effective marketing strategies. You will also need experience in brand building and digital marketing, with strong competencies in content strategy and lead generation being highly desirable. Leadership and team management skills are essential, with a focus on talent development and fostering a collaborative work environment. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are critical, enabling you to convey your vision and reach a consensus effectively. The role requires adaptability and agility, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
