Senior Performance Test Engineer
Job Description
Senior Performance Test Engineer
- Shape and embed performance testing strategy across a modern Quality Engineering model
- Opportunity to influence enterprise-wide standards and improve product resilience and scalability
- Hybrid 80% homeworking and 20% from Stratford upon Avon
Join NFU Mutual as we build a new Centre of Excellence for Quality Engineering. You’ll have the opportunity to help transform how quality is delivered across the full development lifecycle, elevating testing to a more integrated, proactive discipline. Working closely with our engineering and product teams, you’ll play a key role in delivering better outcomes for our customers. This is a rare opportunity to make a genuine impact while helping shape a team and function that’s still evolving.
About the role
At NFU Mutual, this Senior Performance Test Engineer role plays a key part in a strategic transformation from traditional testing to a modern Quality Engineering approach. You will help establish consistent, scalable performance testing standards that support delivery teams to operate at pace while maintaining high levels of quality, trust and regulatory compliance.
Working within the IT Division and reporting to the QE Non Functional Lead, you will partner with delivery teams, Product Owners and Business Analysts to define and implement performance testing strategies. You will focus on performance, scalability, capacity and resilience, ensuring these are embedded early and throughout the delivery lifecycle.
You will design and implement repeatable and scalable performance testing approaches, using scenario modelling to reflect real world usage and demand. By analysing results and identifying bottlenecks, you will provide clear, actionable insight to improve system performance and support operational readiness.
You will also lead on establishing best practice tooling, automation and integration into delivery pipelines, while providing consultancy and assurance on performance risks. This includes reviewing resilience and capacity testing, supporting audits and influencing stakeholders to improve outcomes across the business.
As a recognised specialist, you will coach and guide teams, helping to build capability and drive continuous improvement in performance engineering across NFU Mutual.
About you
You are an experienced performance engineering specialist with a strong foundation in designing and delivering performance testing strategies that improve system reliability, scalability and resilience. You are confident working across complex delivery environments, using data and insight to identify issues, influence decisions and drive better outcomes.
You bring a structured and analytical approach to performance testing, ensuring solutions reflect real user behaviour and operational demand. You are equally comfortable working hands on with tools and automation as you are collaborating with stakeholders to embed best practice and improve overall quality engineering capability.
You’ll also bring
- Experience designing performance testing strategies, including scalability, capacity and resilience testing
- Strong capability in performance modelling and scenario based testing aligned to real world usage
- Hands on experience of performance tooling and automation, such as JMeter or LoadRunner, and integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to analyse performance data, identify bottlenecks and provide clear, actionable insight
- Experience working with delivery teams to embed consistent performance standards and improve outcomes
This role is internally known as Quality Engineering Performance Specialist
