Job Description

Test Data Engineer

  • Play a key role shaping enterprise test data strategy and improving delivery quality

  • Opportunity to work at the heart of a major Quality Engineering transformation

  • Hybrid 80% homeworking and 20% from Stratford upon Avon

Join NFU Mutual as we build a new Centre of Excellence for Quality Engineering. You’ll have the opportunity to help transform how quality is delivered across the full development lifecycle, elevating testing to a more integrated, proactive discipline. Working closely with our engineering and product teams, you’ll play a key role in delivering better outcomes for our customers. This is a rare opportunity to make a genuine impact while helping shape a team and function that’s still evolving.

About the role

We have an exciting new opportunity at NFU Mutual for a Test Data Engineer. This role sits within the IT Division and plays a central part in a strategic shift from traditional testing to a modern Quality Engineering model. You will help enable faster, more confident delivery while maintaining high standards of quality, trust and regulatory compliance.

As a Test Data Engineer, your focus will be to define and evolve the organisation’s approach to test data management. You will act as the subject matter expert for how test data is created, managed, protected and made available to delivery teams.

Working closely with Quality Engineering and wider technology teams, you will set standards and create reusable patterns for test data management. You will also explore the use of automation, AI and machine learning to improve efficiency and consistency across delivery teams.

In this role, you will support delivery teams by providing technical guidance and helping them adopt best practice approaches to test data creation, masking, synthesis and refresh. You will also ensure that all test data practices meet data protection and regulatory requirements, working with relevant teams across NFU Mutual to maintain compliance.

You will lead the development of automated test data solutions, ensuring they integrate effectively with delivery pipelines and reduce manual effort. Alongside this, you will identify risks and constraints in test data processes, helping teams improve reliability, reduce duplication and avoid delays.

About you

You are an experienced Quality Engineering or Data Engineering professional with a strong background in test data management. You are confident working in complex environments, bringing both technical depth and a collaborative mindset to help teams improve how test data is created, managed and used across delivery. You are comfortable working at pace, influencing stakeholders and driving improvements that enhance quality, consistency and efficiency.

You combine technical expertise with strong analytical thinking and a proactive approach to problem solving. You are able to navigate ambiguity, identify risks and work with others to implement practical, scalable solutions that support modern engineering practices.

You’ll also bring

  • Experience in Test Data Management including data creation, masking, synthesis and refresh strategies

  • Expertise in automating test data solutions and integrating them with delivery pipelines

  • Strong database management and querying skills using tools such as SQL alongside scripting using Python

  • Experience using test data generation and management tools (e.g. GenRocket, Informatica, Delphix or similar solutions)

  • Knowledge of test data tooling and modern approaches including AI driven methods

  • Experience working in test leadership or within complex delivery environments

This role is internally known as Quality Engineering Test Data Specialist
