Job Description

Risk Analyst (Group)

  • Manage and shape insurance programmes across a complex organisation

  • Work closely with brokers, insurers and senior stakeholders to protect the Group

  • Hybrid role, working with up to 80% homeworking, based from Stratford-upon-Avon

About the role

We’re seeking a [Risk Analyst] to join our Enterprise Risk Management Team, which sits within the Operational Risk and Resilience (Op R&R) Department in the Risk Division. The department provides second line assurance across operational risk, bringing together expertise in enterprise risk management, information security, data protection and business continuity. Within this, the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Team is responsible for designing and embedding NFU Mutual’s risk management framework, helping the business identify, assess and manage its key risks. This role supports the ERM team purpose by managing NFU Mutual’s own insurance programme, which is an important tool for transferring and mitigating operational risk across the Group.

As a Risk Analyst, you'll help ensure NFU Mutual maintains an appropriate insurance programme that balances risk, value for money and business needs. You'll act as a trusted point of contact for insurance-related queries, claims and advice, managing a diverse portfolio of policies including property, motor, professional indemnity, directors' and officers', and cyber insurance. Using your developed understanding of insurance products, risk management and how risks arise in practice, you'll investigate issues, analyse data and management information, challenge assumptions, and provide insights that support informed business decisions. You'll work closely with brokers, insurers and internal stakeholders to coordinate claims, renewals and policy changes, while identifying gaps, recommending practical solutions and helping determine the most appropriate approach to managing or transferring risk. You'll also monitor developments in the insurance market, building knowledge of emerging trends, market conditions and products to ensure the business remains well protected and informed.

Reporting into the Information Risk Management Consultant[HN1.1], you’ll be involved in a wide range of activity; interpreting and explaining policy wordings, supporting other areas of the business that purchase insurance, and preparing presentations and reports for senior stakeholders. You’ll take ownership of specific tasks, contribute to team priorities, and identify opportunities for improvement or project work. This role offers exposure to a variety of business areas, information and tasks allowing you to make a real difference to our organisation.

This role is based in our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford-Upon-Avon. To support with your induction and onboarding, you’ll be in the office for 40% - 60% of your hours. However, we understand how important a positive work-life balance is, so to help you give your best, we offer great facilities when you want to be in an office environment and support to work up to 80% of your hours from home.

About you

Don’t have an understanding of insurance, or knowledge of commercial insurance products? We’re happy to teach you the technical knowledge. What is most important to us is your non-technical skills. You’ll also be self-motivated, comfortable learning independently and confident using your initiative to work through problems, ambiguity and situations where the answer is not immediately clear. Your ability to develop relationships with a wide range of stakeholders is enhanced by your how you flex your communication style, adapting your approach to engage a range of stakeholders and build positive working relationships. You’ll maximise your internal and external networks to ensure you know who to contact and when. As a pragmatic and logical thinker, you enjoy solving problems, planning and identifying opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.

To join the team, you’ll:

  • Take ownership of your work, show initiative when tackling challenges, and demonstrate a genuine learning mindset, including being willing to figure things out, ask thoughtful questions and keep progressing even where there is ambiguity or no immediate answer.

  • Bring strong analytical skills and enjoy working with data, using insight to identify risks, challenge assumptions, and support effective decision-making.

  • Be confident using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SharePoint, to collate, analyse and present information in a clear and meaningful way for different audiences. (essential)

  • To reiterate, experience within risk management and/or the insurance industry would be beneficial, but most importantly you'll be curious, proactive and motivated to make a meaningful contribution to managing risk across the organisation.
