Technical Director – Energy is responsible for leading the technical strategy, innovation, and execution of energy-related projects. This role involves overseeing engineering, procurement, and deployment of energy systems, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with business goals. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in energy technologies (renewables, grid, storage, decarbonization etc.), strong leadership, and a track record of business development and delivering complex projects.

Job Profile

  • Leading and driving appropriate strategy to create / nurture 5-6 clients’ accounts for technical & corporate advisory services to achieve or exceed net revenue targets.
  • Directly and indirectly – through their wider account leadership team – influencing, implementing, and advising our clients to help them deliver robust solutions (with a strong but not exclusive focus on energy & associated infrastructure) to enable them to achieve desired outputs.
  • Being actively involved in establishing long term positive client relationships and secure advisory, PPCM, PMC, engineering, and development consultancy work across client portfolios in the energy sector.
  • Managing the risks and opportunities to achieving our strategic goal – ensuring our excellent delivery performance on which our credibility and reputation rely is key.
  • Ensuring our delivery teams go beyond matching the requirement of each commission and drive innovation and added value into every project to address the clients and end user key challenges.
  • Driving appropriate management oversight of the vertical and ensuring appropriate assurance and intervention as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Technical Leadership

  • Define and implement the business plan and roadmap for energy projects.
  • Ensure alignment of technical solutions with business objectives and sustainability goals.
  • Tracking the prospects pipeline and prepare winning strategy including early positioning.
  • Identifying Opportunities and turning them into Prospects
  • Driving the bidding process, converting Prospects into Projects ensuring bids are technically and commercially sound.

Project Development & Execution

  • Manage technical aspects of project development, including feasibility studies, detailed project reports, procurement services, project management, commissioning & operational management services.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and lead multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and project managers.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and technology partners.
  • Represent Mott in professional circles through thought leadership, public speaking, and networking events.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the industry trends and market conditions to develop new clients and develop MSI strategy.
  • Meet with clients to understand their goals and in developing business challenges to their capex plan and pitch for MM’s advisory services.

Operational Excellence

  • Optimize performance of existing energy assets through data-driven insights.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry standards.
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues.

In doing so, the candidate will have to interface with various stakeholders - both internal and external to ensure timely & satisfactory deliveries consistent with clients' expectations as well as Mott MacDonald standards, ensuring commercial success of the assignments.

Desired Qualification and Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience within the Energy Sector, energy project development, engineering, consultancy or operations.
  • Proven leadership in managing large-scale energy projects (e.g., solar, wind, hydrogen, grid modernization).
  • An understanding of finance with experience in core engineering projects would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with carbon markets, ESG reporting, and climate risk frameworks.
  • Demonstrable business management and development skills
  • Familiar and proficient with project management process.
  • Possess a recognized graduate degree in engineering & post-graduate educational degree in business administration or finance
  • Positive attitude, team player.
  • Flexible to work away from your home office and travel within and outside India
  • Fluency in English, excellent communication and report writing skills
