Mott MacDonald is a large, global engineering firm, with an opportunity to join our team in Japan. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to work on exciting renewable energy projects, such as in offshore and onshore wind, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) , and solar projects. The services we provide to our clients are varied and includes design, owners engineering and technical advisory support.

You will work on various renewable energy projects globally, focusing on Japan and Asia Pacific. Responsibilities include delivering our work, supporting the growth of the renewable energy business, and improving the technical performance of the regional team.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing delivery of projects, including design, engineering studies, owners engineering and advisory services, and leading project teams

• Provide technical reports and/or explanations to the client and relevant stakeholders, who may be both technical and non-technical

• Providing technical assistance related to electrical field, providing guidance for project teams, especially to transfer knowledge on the Japanese market (equipment specifications, local codes and standards, regulations, legislation, etc)

• Liaising with wider Asia offices to ensure a collaborative approach to project delivery

• Managing client relationships, leading and managing projects and providing technical leadership across the region with key Japanese and International clients

• Working closely with wider Mott MacDonald offices to develop, capture and deliver a pipeline of opportunities focused in our core business territories and sectors with our key Japanese and International clients.

About You:

  • Degree in electrical engineering, preferably with a specialization in power systems, renewable energy, and/or sustainable energy technology, and/or Qualification of Professional Engineer.
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience with a preference for experience in renewable energy projects, though experience in thermal and HVDC/HVAC transmission is also positive.
  • Proficiency with power system simulation tools (PSS®E, DigSilent PowerFactory) and/or microgrid and hybrid energy system simulation tools (Homer Pro, Homer Grid) is a benefit
  • Experience on BESS projects, or willingness to upskill in this area is a plus
  • Project management skills and experience in an international, multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required by projects and business opportunities.
