Job Description

Location/s: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok
Recruiter contact: Shing Ying Low

Together, we open opportunities with our connected thinking.

Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management and development consultancy and one of the world's largest employee-owned companies. We are driven by a clear purpose: improving society by considering social outcomes in everything we do.

As the energy transition accelerates across Asia Pacific, Mott MacDonald continues to play a leading role in shaping a more sustainable future. We have built a strong reputation in renewable energy, supporting the development and delivery of large-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects through technical advisory, owner's engineering and detailed design services.

The Opportunity

We're continuing to grow our Energy Storage capability across Asia Pacific and are looking for an Energy Storage Specialist to join our team. This role can be based in Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand.

Joining a collaborative team of renewable energy and power systems specialists, you'll contribute to projects that support grid resilience, renewable energy integration and decarbonisation goals across the region. Working alongside experts from across our global network, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of technologies, clients and project stages, helping deliver innovative solutions that make a positive impact.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work and is looking to further develop their expertise in one of the energy sector's fastest-growing areas.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver technical inputs on battery energy storage projects, ranging from microgrids and commercial applications through to utility-scale and hybrid renewable energy developments.
  • Undertake system sizing, performance assessments and engineering analysis for BESS projects.
  • Develop and review technical models using industry-standard software such as PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, HOMER or similar tools.
  • Support grid integration studies, concept design and detailed engineering activities.
  • Review technical specifications, equipment selections, vendor documentation and test reports.
  • Contribute to technical advisory, due diligence and owner's engineering assignments.
  • Support procurement activities, construction monitoring, factory testing and commissioning programmes.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and project deliverables while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the business.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of technical knowledge, digital tools and best practices within the Energy team.

What This Role Offers

As our Energy Storage business continues to expand, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Deepen your technical expertise across battery energy storage, renewable energy integration and power systems.
  • Work on high-profile projects across Asia Pacific and internationally.
  • Develop client-facing and advisory experience through exposure to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Take on increasing technical leadership responsibilities as your career progresses.
  • Pursue professional accreditation and continue your professional development through our global technical networks and learning programmes.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a specialisation in Power Systems, Renewable Energy or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience in battery energy storage, power systems and/or renewable energy projects.
  • Experience in the design, analysis, simulation and/or deployment of BESS solutions.
  • Familiarity with power system modelling tools such as PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, HOMER or equivalent software.
  • Understanding of battery technologies, power conversion systems and grid connection requirements.
  • Experience with solar PV, wind, hydropower or other renewable energy technologies would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multicultural and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support project delivery and client engagement.

Why Join Us?

At Mott MacDonald, you'll be part of a global, employee-owned business where your expertise, ideas and ambition are valued. You'll work alongside some of the industry's leading specialists on projects that are helping to transform the energy landscape across Asia Pacific and beyond.

Together, we are opening opportunities, creating positive social outcomes and delivering a more sustainable future.
