Shape a better world with us

At Mott MacDonald, we're a global employee-owned engineering, management and development consultancy. With strong local leadership and a collaborative culture, we work on projects that improve communities, protect the environment, and create lasting value across New Zealand.

Our Transport team is growing, and we're looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Auckland office and help deliver some of New Zealand's most significant highways, aviation and transport infrastructure projects.

This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-profile projects while collaborating with technical specialists across New Zealand and our wider global business.

Your opportunity

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll contribute to the planning, design and delivery of major transport infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on highways, airports and multidisciplinary civil works.

You'll work across projects from concept and detailed design through to construction support, partnering with clients, contractors and project teams to deliver practical, innovative and buildable solutions.

Our work includes:

  • Airport terminal and airfield infrastructure projects
  • Pavement, drainage and utility infrastructure design
  • Highway and corridor improvement projects
  • Road realignments and intersection upgrades
  • Transport hub and access infrastructure projects
  • Construction monitoring and contract administration services
  • Major transport and aviation infrastructure programmes

What you'll do

  • Deliver concept and detailed civil design for highways, aviation and transport infrastructure projects.
  • Produce and review design models, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
  • Undertake civil engineering design including pavements, drainage, utilities, earthworks and corridor infrastructure.
  • Support the delivery of airfield and landside infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including transport planners, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers and contractors.
  • Provide construction phase support, construction monitoring and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to project planning, design reviews and technical problem solving.
  • Build strong and trusted relationships with clients and delivery partners.
  • Assist with proposals, bids and business development activities.

About you

You are an experienced civil engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and delivering technically excellent outcomes.

You'll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working on highways, transport and/or aviation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong civil design capability, including experience in some or all of:
    • Pavement design
    • Drainage design
    • Utility coordination and modelling
    • Road corridor design
    • Vehicle tracking and geometric design
    • Construction staging and constructability assessments
  • Experience using Civil 3D and related design platforms.
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings and design documentation to construction level.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, including Austroads and New Zealand transport design requirements.
  • Experience supporting construction activities, construction monitoring or contract administration.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • CPEng status or progress towards Chartership is highly regarded.
