Your Opportunity
Building on our recent growth in the Highways market across Australia, our Roads and Highways team is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer in Sydney to lead and deliver Iconic Australian projects, where you’ll have the opportunity to shape and grow our civil design capability, expand your own horizons and support growth within our wider transport team, focusing on embedding technical excellence at the core of everything we do.
The Senior Civil Engineer role will support growth across the business unit by way of quality civil, roads and highways engineering design, team leadership and design management functions as well as project management if that is also of interest. You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex highway and road infrastructure design projects and providing advice on all engineering design matters to a range of stakeholders and solving civil infrastructure related problems. This role ensures technical excellence, stakeholder alignment, and timely delivery across multidisciplinary teams, with a strong focus on safety, digital design integration, and client satisfaction.
Depending on your specific expertise, your responsibilities will include various aspects of:
- Design and Project Management: Manage the end-to-end design lifecycle for major highways and road infrastructure projects, including scoping, design development, and technical assurance.
- Design Oversight: Contribute to and oversee the preparation of designs, reports, specifications, and digital models (2D/3D), ensuring compliance with client requirements, standards, and quality benchmarks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams, facilitating design reviews, workshops (e.g., Safety in Design), and approvals.
- Digital Engineering: Leverage tools including Revizto, ProjectWise, Sharepoint and BIM platforms to interrogate and manage digital design data, workflows, and deliverables.
- Team Development: Mentor junior engineers and contribute to capability building through the Highways Academy and internal knowledge-sharing platforms. Manage the development of multi-disciplinary design coordination, understanding of civil, rail/road, structures and geotechnical interfaces and dependencies.
- Coordination: Lead & manage design review activities with internal and external stakeholders to meet program and quality requirements
- Quality & Assurance: Diligently implement quality assurance protocols including team selection, competency management, and design requirements allocation/verification
About you
- Degree in civil engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- 5+ years’ transport infrastructure design experience including D&C, ECI or Alliance delivery models.
- Proven ability to manage complex design interfaces and multidisciplinary teams.
- Good understanding of client and stakeholder requirements, including stage gates, comment close-out, and design maturity.
- Able to translate technical requirements into clear, client-focused deliverables.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Builds trusted client relationships and delivers high-quality outcomes.
- Proven track record leading small to medium-sized complex D&C projects and / or leading the civil discipline in a major D&C.
- Experience leading or contributing to bidding and work-winning initiatives.
