About the Business Unit

You will be joining a Ground Engineering Team covering Northern Ireland, Ireland and Scotland (NIS). As part of our growing business in Northern Ireland and Ireland, we are interested in hearing from enthusiastic and talented individuals to develop and grow our geotechnical offering in Ireland.

Overview of the Role

The focus of the role is two fold:
1. To build strong internal and external relationships with Mott MacDonald teams and potential clients by networking and promoting our expertise in Northern Ireland and Ireland with the aim of growing the team.
2. Technical and commercial delivery of ground engineering projects in Ireland and beyond.
The role will be varied and offers fantastic opportunities for personal and career development. The candidate will report to team leads based in Scotland and will provide ground engineering support and expertise on projects across the NIS region. You will also mentor and develop junior staff.
The team is currently involved in a wide variety of projects working across multiple sectors including building structures, rail, power, renewables, highways, maritime, dams & hydro, water & flooding and forestry. You will deliver geotechnical projects from inception through to detailed design and construction stages.
You will join a team formed of civil/geotechnical engineers, contaminated land consultants and engineering geologists. The team comprises a mix of graduates, chartered engineers and team leaders who deliver projects in our target sectors.

You will be expected to control project resources including monitoring against budget; prepare and manage work programmes to deliver to deadlines; develop client relationships; contribute to bid submissions, comply with corporate governance processes as well as to support development of the teams technical capability.

The role will be primarily office-based however flexibility is required to attend site visits, client meetings, and for GI site-supervision as may be required by our projects. Travel to other offices in the UK and Ireland is also expected to be required periodically

Candidate Specification

Essential:
• Degree qualified in civil/geotechnical engineering or engineering geology and professionally qualified (Chartered).
• Demonstrable extensive record delivering geological/ geotechnical projects using applicable standards and principles
• Broad knowledge and understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering with practical design experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build relationships with colleagues and provide geotechnical support in key sectors
• Quality assurance – track record of checking of reports and designs to ensure quality standards are met.
• Commercial awareness and ability to communicate and manage project change
Desirable
• Geotechnical design experience including (for example) shallow and deep foundations, settlement assessment, retaining walls, ground improvement and slope stability analysis
• Producing geological, geotechnical and geo-environmental desk studies, ground investigation specifications and managing ground investigation projects
• Experience of line management and/ or leading a small team
• Day-to-day mentoring and development of graduate engineers.
• Shall embrace and promote digital methods of working and reporting.
