About the Business Unit

As part of our growing business in Northern Ireland and Ireland, we are interested in hearing from enthusiastic and talented individuals who enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of engineering projects You will be joining the local Northern Ireland and Ireland team within a wider Ground Engineering Team covering Northern Ireland, Ireland and Scotland (NIS) and will be responsible for project delivery.
The NIS ground engineering team delivers geotechnical and geo-environmental work across our offices in Scotland (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, & Lerwick), Ireland (Dublin, Cork and Limerick) and Northern Ireland (Belfast). The team also supports the wider ground engineering requirements of Mott MacDonald throughout the UK and overseas. The team is currently involved in a wide variety of projects working across multiple sectors including building structures, maritime, dams & hydro, water & flooding, defence, transportation, highways, rail, forestry, power and renewables.
The existing team is formed of civil/geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and contaminated land consultants. The team comprises a mix of graduates, chartered engineers and team leaders who deliver projects in our target sectors.

Overview of the Role

Our team is seeking a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with experience in geotechnical engineering projects including ground investigation design and supervision, interpretation of ground investigation data, ground characterisation and geotechnical design.
The role offers fantastic opportunities for personal and career development. The candidate will provide ground engineering support and expertise on projects across the NIS region.
The role will be primarily office-based however flexibility is required to attend site visits, client meetings, and for GI site-supervision as may be required by our projects. Travel to other NIS offices and UK based project locations is also expected to be required periodically.

Candidate Specification

• Degree qualified in civil/geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
• Ability to operate as part of a team working across various offices and within multiple sectors.
• Knowledge and understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering with practical design experience.
• Experience of producing desk study reports, and scoping ground investigations.
• Willingness to undertake site supervision.
• Deliver technical works of a professional standard to meet project timescales.
• Chartered with the ICE, GeolSoc or equivalent.
• Use of digital methods of working including using GIS, Holebase and 3D modelling software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Commercial awareness and ability to communicate and manage project change
• Provide guidance and technical support to graduate members of the team
• Up to date understanding of current design standards
