About the business unit
The Buildings and Cities Unit (BNC) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

Overview of role
Our team is seeking a Senior/Principal Geoenvironmental Consultant with post chartership experience in this field. The focus of the role is two fold:
1. To build strong internal and external relationships with Mott Macdonald teams and potential clients by networking and promoting our geotechnical and geo-environmental expertise.
2. Lead and grow a small team providing senior support to ensure technical and commercial delivery of ground engineering projects.

The role will report to the geotechnical lead and will provide technical support and expertise on projects across the Wales, Midlands and West of England region.

You will have demonstrable experience in ground investigations (design and supervision), ground characterisation and geoenvironmental risk assessment. Key elements of the role include:
• Ability to operate as part of the ground engineering team working across various offices and within multiple sectors.
• Building relationships with colleagues in order to identify opportunities and provide technical support in key Sectors
• Effectively manage task budgets and have the ability to recognise project resources requirements and change-control on projects
• Deliver technical work of a professional standard to meet project timescales
• Quality assurance - checking of reports to ensure quality standards are met.
• Day-to-day management, mentoring and development of graduate / junior engineers within the team. Dissemination of technical knowledge to assist the development of others.
• Provide support to writing project proposals and business development.

The role will be primarily office-based however flexibility is required to attend site visits, client meetings, and for GI site-supervision as may be required by our projects. Travel to other UK offices and UK based project locations is also expected to be required periodically.

Candidate Specification
We are looking for a geoenvironmental consultant who has achieved chartership, with proven track record of delivering geoenvironmental projects for a range of clients. The candidate shall have:
• BSc, MEng or MSc in relevant subject e.g. geology, chemistry, environmental science.
• Up to date understanding of current legislation, standards and best practice, with proven track record of delivering projects in the UK to the satisfaction of clients and regulators.
• Ground and Conceptual Site Model development.
• Experience in the planning and design of ground investigations and undertaking sitework associated with investigation.
• To embrace and promote digital methods of working and reporting. Experience of using GIS, Holebase and 3D modelling software is desirable.
• Familiarity with the derivation and use of human health and controlled waters assessment criteria.
