Overview

Are you passionate about building cutting‑edge technology that powers experiences for millions of users worldwide? The Microsoft Search, Assistance, and Intelligence (MSAI) team is seeking talented Software Engineers to develop innovative cloud search services and prompt-driven Copilot experiences across M365 Copilot and Copilot Search.

As a Software Engineer II on the MSAI team, you will:

  • Build the emerging M365 Copilot platform:
    Develop features that enhance Copilot chat and Copilot Search. Improve enterprise productivity through intelligent prompt assistance and deep integration with Microsoft Graph entities such as files, emails, meetings, and 1P/3P connectors.
  • Design and operate scalable services:
    Architect and implement cloud-scale services running across thousands of machines. Apply a combination of API design, distributed systems, ML/LLM techniques, and algorithmic optimization to deliver reliable, high‑performance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop features across the search and platform stack.
  • Operate, monitor, and improve live-site quality for substrate search cloud services.
  • Build highly scalable, high‑performance components in a distributed environment.
  • Collaborate with PMs and partner teams to understand user needs and translate them into rich search and Copilot experiences.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, agentic tools) in the software development lifecycle.
  • Solid skills in C++/C#/Java with hands‑on development experience.
  • Experience working with distributed systems in an agile environment.
  • Excellent communication and cross‑team collaboration skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
