Configuration Manager (CMDB)
Location:
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Permanent - Salaried
The CMDB Manager is responsible for ensuring the governance, accuracy, and integrity of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role underpins operational excellence by maintaining reliable configuration data that supports IT Service Management processes such as Incident, Problem, Change, and Asset Management. The CMDB Manager drives efficiency, consistency, and quality across all configuration-related activities.
Responsibilities:
Operational Excellence & Governance
- Champion best practices to maintain a robust, reliable CMDB that supports seamless IT operations.
- Define and enforce standards for CI data quality, completeness, and lifecycle management.
- Conduct regular audits and reconciliation activities to ensure CMDB accuracy and compliance.
Strategic Alignment
- Partner with the Head of Service Delivery to align CMDB capabilities with organisational strategy and operational priorities.
- Ensure CMDB processes follow ITIL best practices and enterprise policies.
Data Discovery & Integration
- Oversee automated discovery tools and manual data‑capture processes to ensure accurate CI information.
- Validate discovery methods and maintain strong integrations with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with Service Owners, Infrastructure and Application teams to define CI requirements and relationships.
- Provide actionable insights and reporting from CMDB data to support decision‑making and service reliability.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead initiatives to enhance CMDB processes, tools, and data models.
- Identify automation and efficiency opportunities across configuration management activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong understanding of ITIL processes, especially Configuration Management.
- Proven experience in CMDB tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and discovery technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver operational excellence through governance and process optimisation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and communicate technical concepts clearly.
