The opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the physical transformation of our Henlow and Stevenage Manufacturing facilities. With our orderbook continuing to grow it is essential that MBDA is ready for the challenges of the future. This role plays a pivotal role preparing MBDA for a significant ramp up in manufacturing capacity and the implementation of new technology and ways of working.

The role will require strong leadership, both of the direct team and internal and external stakeholders to ensuring project success.

At Henlow specifically this marks a major transformation of the site covering every aspect of site operation from land acquisition, to live-build missile assembly buildings including fitout, storage solutions and utilities uplifts and its delivery requires successful coordination of a network of stakeholders including the MoD, the local council, the Health and Safety Executive

At Stevenage the challenge is different, managing the investment activities covering inert-build missile assembly buildings including fitout and storage solutions, ensuring this is fit for the development of new products and technologies now and into the future.

Role Purpose

  • Responsible for the delivery of strategically significant investment projects against the RIBA standard, on behalf of the Manufacturing function. Providing leadership and guidance to other manufacturing project management professionals, investing in people to develop project management capability for continuous improvement. Optimising resources to achieve specified outcomes, shape and promote manufacturing strategy and maintain commitment from multiple interdependent stakeholders.
  • Ensuring alignment of all projects, programmes or change activities within the delegated work packages.
  • Balance demand and de-conflicting priorities in order to deliver a clear and concise message to all internal manufacturing and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for engaging with the wider Manufacturing operations teams to ensure capital investment plans are available and generated to link in with site investment.
  • Stakeholder relationship management of both internal and external stakeholders.

What we’re looking for from you:

Programme management experience is essential, ideally experience in a complex and highly legislative environment. Able to problem solve and work with a wide variety of stakeholders from technical experts, building contractors, and directors.

Key Accountabilities

  • Strategically balancing the customer demand, via the Enterprise Steering Board demand, and the current / future site investment capacity.
  • Negotiating where required to smooth out demand to best suit the manufacturing plan.
  • Management of key stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and positive team spirit within the wider MBDA matrix organisation.
  • Representation of Manufacturing at internal site investment reviews and MBDA with external stakeholders.
  • Relationship management – the role involves liaising with critical external entities to deliver the unique capabilities at the Henlow site. Excellent relationship management is essential for keeping all stakeholders supporting the project.
  • Ability to adapt quickly – the nature of new construction works requires the ability to adapt to emerging challenges and scope-change.
  • Ability to challenge – the successful candidate must be able to challenge where appropriate in order to deliver the capability on time, on cost and on quality. At times this will require leaning on the technical expertise of colleagues in diverse areas including explosives safety and engineering.
  • Budget management of the delegated work package, covering the various site improvement plans.
  • Management of a deployed team; generating milestone objectives which will ensure on time and on cost delivery of the package.
