Role Overview

The Senior Site Project Engineer leads the planning, design, and execution of moderately to highly complex capital projects that improve workplace safety, quality and food safety, asset health, productivity, and sustainability. This role applies advanced engineering and project management expertise to deliver projects aligned with strategic business objectives.

The Senior Site Project Engineer partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality & Food Safety, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Finance, and Regional Engineering to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope and budget, and in compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements. The role also serves as a technical authority and project leadership resource, providing guidance and mentorship to site and associate project engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Capital Project Management

  • Lead capital projects from initiation through closeout in accordance with the internal project lifecycle process

  • Define and align project scope, objectives, schedule, budget, and deliverables with key stakeholders

  • Identify project risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies

  • Develop procurement documentation including RFQs/RFPs, equipment specifications, and technical requirements

  • Review and approve engineering designs, technical drawings, and construction submittals

  • Manage third-party engineering firms, contractors, and OEMs to ensure safe and compliant execution

  • Oversee construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up activities, ensuring effective handover to Operations and Maintenance

  • Track and forecast project performance related to cost, schedule, cash flow, and scope

  • Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders

  • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, including as-built records and change controls

Asset Management

  • Initiate fixed asset capitalizations and retirements in accordance with corporate finance and accounting policies

  • Support annual fixed asset cycle counts and asset tagging processes

  • Support asset conservation initiatives and compliance with internal asset standards

  • Lead the site Asset Health Check program, including audits, technical assessments, and risk mitigation planning

Safety, Quality, and Food Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all projects comply with internal engineering, safety, environmental, and food safety standards, as well as external regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, FDA)

  • Ensure safe execution of project activities in alignment with site construction safety programs

  • Apply hygienic design principles in equipment selection, design, and installation

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field

  • 5+ years of experience in a comparable engineering or technical role

  • Proven experience managing small- to medium-scale capital projects (typically <$5M)

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and construction management practices

  • Effective planning, communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to travel up to 5% domestically

Preferred

  • 7+ years of experience in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or related regulated manufacturing environments

  • Practical experience in food processing facilities, including food safety and hygienic design principles
