Job Opportunity: Senior Process Developer – Mars Pet Nutrition Europe

Location: Birstall, West Yorkshire (Hybrid - minimum 50% onsite)
Job Type: Permanent

Mars Pet Nutrition Europe is looking for a talented and driven Senior Process Developer to join our R&D team based in Leeds. This role is central to delivering our innovation and renovation pipeline across Dry, Care & Treats categories.

You will play a key role in designing and implementing process technology solutions, leading complex projects from concept through to industrialisation, while driving efficiency, quality, and sustainability improvements across our manufacturing network.

This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with global and regional teams and make a tangible impact on our product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical process design and development across a portfolio of complex R&D projects
  • Drive optimisation of existing processes to improve cost, quality, performance, and sustainability (including Six Sigma methodologies)
  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D, Supply, Engineering, and Commercial teams to deliver process solutions
  • Lead product scale-up and industrialisation into Mars Petcare factories
  • Develop and maintain robust process documentation (e.g. specifications, FMEA) and ensure compliance with internal standards
  • Identify and manage process risks, influencing project teams to deliver successful outcomes
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to R&D colleagues
  • Travel across Europe to support trials and supplier collaboration

About You

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a technical or scientific discipline (e.g. Engineering, Chemistry, Food Science)
  • Significant experience in process development, product development, engineering, or a related technical field
  • Proven track record of delivering complex R&D or technical projects
  • Strong knowledge of process development principles
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in MS Office applications

Additional Requirements

This role involves hands-on work in lab and factory environments, including:

  • Standing for extended periods (e.g. during trials)
  • Manual handling of materials and samples
  • Movement around production sites (including stairs)
  • International travel within Europe
