Job Description:

The Project Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the planning and execution of capital and technical projects from ideation through successful project closure. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with business objectives.

As an active member of the SBU Engineering community, the functional engineering team, and the local site engineering team, the Project Engineering Manager collaborates cross-functionally to drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement across assigned project teams. Key responsibilities include leveraging technical expertise to deliver sustainable solutions that strengthen the organization’s competitive advantage.

The role also involves influencing, coaching, and mentoring project team members to build capability, foster accountability, and drive high performance.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering; an advanced degree in Engineering or MBA considered a plus.
  • 10+ years overall experience and 6-8 years’ experience in an comparable technical position (Food, Beverage, Pharmaceutical or related industry preferable).
  • People Leadership experience is highly preferred (experience with coaching and training people is a must).
  • Experience Managing Impactful Projects is a must (Capital Projects).
  • Experience working with Cross-functional areas and Contractors is a must.

Associate

  • Develop personal leadership and managerial skills to continuously improve the effectiveness of the technical function.
  • Foster the functional and effectiveness competence development of self and team members.
  • Drive for Excellence in Execution.
  • Stay current in the most state of the art functional tools and methodologies.
  • Participate in the recruiting process when requested.
  • Provide innovative Engineering solutions that drive a competitive advantage.

Business

  • Ensure delivery of scope, time, budget, and cash flow for all projects.
  • Develop projects that are technically feasible to meet business and segment plans.
  • Promote and follow the established ways of working.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all Stakeholders and other functions to ensure all project objectives are clearly defined and achieved.
  • Lead team members to gain and sustain a technical competitive advantage.
  • Drive initiatives that shorten new product and project cycle times to deliver first to market.
  • Drive initiatives that improve implementation efficiencies as well as operational efficiencies.
  • Drive lean ways of working in the engineering process and as a project deliverable.
  • Drive decisions to improve business measurements such as ROTA, FATR etc.
  • Drive the project development process.

Functional

  • Continuously improve technical knowledge and stay current with all applicable technology developments.
  • Continuously improve personal efficiency and performance to provide value added engineering.
  • Key member and contributor of the CVS Team.
  • Actively participate in the development of engineering standards and tools.
  • Support safety, security and environmental policies.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to provide sustained technical competitive advantage.
  • Identify, protect and expand intellectual property of corporation.
  • Maximize asset utilization through value added engineering and lean design.
  • Drive, support and develop standards for equipment, systems and engineering processes or assigned functional area and collaborate with other senior engineers and global technical teams.
  • Develop external business relationships including construction contractors and engineering resources.
  • Proactively develop practices and methodologies that increase the effectiveness and reduces the costs of engineering.
  • Provide leadership and engineering knowledge required to plan and execute projects.
  • Drive adherence to Safety, Security and Environmental policies and standards.
  • Drive adherence to Global Quality & Food Safety policies and standards.
  • Drive adherence to Global Sustainability in a Generation (SIG) policies and standards.

Leadership

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership to project teams and direct reports.
  • Fostering and Sustaining a winning environment which promotes safety, trust and confidence.
  • Manage project teams to meet project objectives as agreed by stakeholders before project execution.
  • Drive project teams to focus on safety, environmental, food safety, etc. on all projects.
  • Support project objectives and challenge activities not aligned with those objectives.
  • Directly manage all assigned project work.
  • Understand and support the Five Principles, Vision to Win, and the Winning Environment.
  • Effectively monitor and improve a safe work environment.
  • Ensure delivery of quality work.
  • Actively plan and participate in project activities.
