Product Design Engineering focuses on designing and developing new or existing products, components, or assemblies including:

Applying engineering principles to develop products that meet customer technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements

Conducting mathematical modelling to determine if proposed designs are technically feasible

Supporting and participating in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototypes

May also be involved with designing product-specific manufacturing production processes and equipment

The scope of these projects varies in the levels of complexity but typically encompasses supporting innovation projects which covers different sub-workstreams around ingredients, processes, packaging, product designs and claim technologies.

The associate in this role will be expected to contribute to the development of superior propositions based on pet & pet parent insights. They will work in close partnership with the relevant marketing and supply functions, brand boards and R&D functional teams to ensure the technical robustness and validation of the product design

What are we looking for?

  • A university degree in food science, technology, engineering, chemical engineering, or a similar field.
  • Professional knowledge of raw materials, recipe/formulation, and manufacturing processes in a relevant field.
  • Excellent communication skills - English (verbally and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, e.g. communication, relationship building, networking, team spirit.
  • Preferred: Proven experience in a technical field within an FMCG environment or similar business (e.g. pharma, chemical, engineering etc.).

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Build innovative solutions: Design new solutions which align with the Pet Nutrition strategy and align with Desirability, Viability, Feasibility, and Sustainability (DVFS) criteria, meeting design factors and targets while adhering to regulatory, quality, and safety standards.
  • Decode and translate designs: Translate Pet and Pet Parent (Consumer) needs into technical solutions by collaborating with Insights partners and monitoring trends and competitor activities.
  • Manage technical delivery of innovation projects: Across low/medium complexity projects, ensure compliance with business processes, manage delivery within time, cost, and quality parameters, and influence key stakeholders.
  • Lead product design prototyping and final design: Plan and execute product trials in various settings, ensuring the availability of materials and leveraging internal networks for expertise.
  • Communicate project status and findings: Provide timely and quality updates on progress, breakthroughs, and risks to the core project teams and key stakeholders.
