This role is a hybrid role based from our factory site in Leeds, UK. The role holder must attend the office minimum of 50% of working time.

Description

The purpose of the job is to design and implement process technology solutions that will enable the delivery of our project pipeline for Pet Nutrition Europe, Dry / Care & Treats. The job holder will be accountable for medium to high-complexity projects aimed at renovating our existing product portfolio, new innovations, and ensuring that opportunities to optimize costs are identified and realised. The job holder will work closely with the R&D, Commercial, Supply, and Engineering functions at a global and regional level, on existing and new process technology platforms.

Whilst largely office-based, this role requires standing for extended periods of time during trials in labs or factories (eg 8 hours), movement up and down stairs within factories, heavy lifting (movement of trial materials, samples), and international travel to Mars sites and suppliers for trials and meetings.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Technical process design and development for a portfolio of medium to high-complexity projects

  • Optimization of existing processes to improve cost, quality, line performance, and sustainability, including the use of Six Sigma

  • Work seamlessly with cross-functional partners including global/regional R&D teams, Supply, Engineering and Commercial on the scoping, development and implementation of process technology solutions

  • Deliver successful product scale-up and industrialisation into Mars Petcare factories, including the relevant documentation and communication with stakeholders

  • Deliver robust process documentation including specifications, FMEA, and driving compliance with our process development roadmap

  • Consider Intellectual Property and food & people safety within developments

  • Lead process area of risk management and inform/influence the project team.

  • Build expertise in process development and science, ensuring knowledge is effectively captured and shared across regions and functions

  • Travel as required to continental Europe for trials and to meet suppliers

What are we looking for?

Education & Professional Qualification

Degree (or equivalent experience) in a technical/scientific discipline (eg. chemistry, engineering, food science, etc)

Knowledge/Experience

  • Relevant experience in a technical field – ideally in areas such as process development, product development, food science, engineering, or another relevant technically related discipline.

  • Track record of leading the delivery of technical projects

  • (desirable) Professional knowledge of process development in a relevant field.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, e.g. communication, relations building, and networking skills

  • Computer proficiency in MS Office applications
