Reporting to: Site R&D Manager

Location: Melton Mowbray, full-time on-site

Salary range: £31,000 - £37,500 (dependin gon the level of experience), annual bonus, benefits

There is an exciting opportunity to join the site R&D team in Melton Mowbray as a Packaging Technologist. The purpose of this role is to develop and deploy packaging initiatives that support core brand growth, efficiency, and innovation for Mars Petcare.

What are we looking for?

  • A BS or advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related technical field

  • 2+ years’ experience working on packaging projects

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and with external suppliers

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Execute and deliver on a range of packaging development & implementation projects that will lead to continuous improvement in product design and performance

  • Execute and deliver on projects designed to optimize business costs, while adhering to agreed standards of Quality and Food safety

  • Manage site packaging specifications in line with MPE design principles and standards

  • Support technical risk assessments on changes to packaging, and ensure that all risks are effectively managed

  • Manage the implementation of new packaging on site according to the Mars Packaging Quality Management (PQM) standard using relevant system tools

  • Contribute to the definition of minimum standards and critical success factors (CSFs) as part of the Handover 1 and 2 processes for defined packaging implementation projects in collaboration with other site R&D team members, MPE Hub R&D, and local cross-functional teams

  • Collate and manage packaging data, ensuring that our packaging conforms to standards, and that exceptions are effectively escalated and managed

  • Work on Level 2 troubleshooting activities in partnership with other functions to ensure the successful resolution of packaging issues

  • Contribute to Product Related Incident Management Process (PRIMP) teams as required

  • Input into local and European Activity Task Groups (ATGs), providing risk assessment and technical support as required

  • Actively participate in regional technical communities to promote the effective sharing of knowledge and experience across the MPE network and central teams
