Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Technician

Location: Slough, UK, with full-time on-site

Salary: £43,000 - £52,000 (depending on knowledge & experience), annual bonus, benefits

The role of a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Techinican is a working part of the HSE team, this will be a diverse role to support the factory in driving continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance and ensuring legal compliance for safety and environmental aspects. This role reports to the site HSE Manager.

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Support development and deployment of HSE strategies and roadmap to deliver continued improvement to sites safety and environmental performance.

  • Support and coach leadership, operations, technical and engineering teams to:
    - Build knowledge and expertise within the organisation
    - Positively influence mindsets and behaviours
    - Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and corporate standards
    - Ensure potential hazards have been identified, assessed, and where possible eliminated
    - Ensure line based risk assessment is accurate and maintained for one of the Slough factory value streams

  • Involvement in maintaining the Slough site’s health and safety and environmental management systems ensuring that it delivers business benefits, as well as continued accreditation to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and delivery of internal and external audit programs and corrective and preventative actions to address any non conformity.

  • Build in depth expert knowledge relating to relevant legislation and corporate standards and develop programs to support Slough site conformance, including the assessment and reporting of performance.

  • Maintain relationships with external authorities Health & Safety Executive (HSE) ,Environmental Agency (EA) and insurers.

  • Ensuring that Safety & Environmental incidents are suitably investigated, conclusions clearly identify responsibility, and findings are acceptable for review by external authorities.

  • Managing contracts with suppliers and external consultants related to HSE activities.

  • May Lead some specific continuous improvement projects on working conditions, ergonomics and environment to decrease risk & impacts for people & environment.

  • Develop and deliver HSE training to a range of associates at all levels of the organisation.

  • Follows & updates some KPIs related to safety & environment, consolidates data’s to be able to provide external reports with related administration on Safety & Environment both internally within the organisation and to external authorities and bodies.

  • Prioritising of own workload to ensure short and long-term activities are successfully completed.

What are we looking for?

  • In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety & Environment legislation.

  • NEBOSH Certificate, IEMA Certificate preferable but not essential.

  • Experience working in Mars factory environment in operation/technical role and experience maintaining a quality, safety, environmental management system or legal compliance.

  • The ability to maintain professional working relationships with individuals at all levels in and out of the company.
