Job Description

Job Description:

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Senior Advisor

Location: Slough, UK, with full-time on-site

Salary: £55,000 - £67,000 (depending on knowledge & experience), annual bonus, benefits

This role will support the HSE Manager in the development, deployment and delivery of the HSE Roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance. The Senior HSE Advisor will play a key role in delivering the Safety Pillar by ensuring effective implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental standards and full legal compliance across site operations.

This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that robust HSE management systems, tools and processes are in place and effectively embedded; promoting the right safety behaviours through visible leadership, coaching and engagement; and providing assurance through auditing, inspection and performance monitoring activities across the organisation.

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Drive the development and deployment of the site's HSE strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to elevate safety and environmental performance.

  • Act as a strategic partner and coach to the site leadership team, influencing mindsets and behaviors to build a world-class HSE culture. Provide expert counsel to operations, technical, and engineering teams to enhance their HSE capabilities.

  • Own and continuously improve the site's health and safety and environmental management systems, ensuring their effectiveness in delivering business benefits and maintaining accreditation to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

  • Serve as the site's subject matter expert on all relevant HSE legislation and corporate standards, translating complex requirements into practical and effective site-wide programs.

  • Lead and manage the site's relationship with external authorities, including the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Environmental Agency (EA), and insurers, acting as the primary point of contact and ensuring all interactions are managed professionally.

  • Oversee all Safety & Environmental incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and that robust corrective and preventative actions are implemented to prevent recurrence. Lead investigations for high-potential incidents.

  • Initiate and lead strategic continuous improvement projects focused on enhancing working conditions, ergonomics, and environmental performance, delivering measurable reductions in risk and environmental impact.

  • Develop and oversee the site's comprehensive HSE training program, ensuring it is effective in building competence and driving the desired safety culture across all levels of the organization.

  • Strategically manage all contracts with suppliers and external consultants for HSE activities, ensuring they deliver value and support the site's HSE objectives.

  • Define, track, and analyze key HSE performance indicators (KPIs), providing insightful reports to both internal leadership and external authorities to drive data-driven decision-making and demonstrate compliance.

  • Autonomously manage and prioritize a complex workload, aligning short and long-term HSE activities with the site's overall business objectives and providing guidance to junior team members.

What are we looking for?

  • Expert-level knowledge and practical application of HSE legislation and corporate standards, with a proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into effective, site-wide strategic programs.

  • NEBOSH International Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) is essential. Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) is highly preferred, demonstrating a commitment to the highest professional standards.

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive HSE experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably within the food or FMCG sector. Must have a demonstrated track record of leading HSE initiatives, driving cultural change, and successfully managing management systems like ISO 45001 & ISO 14001.

  • Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a long-term HSE vision. Must be proficient in analyzing performance data to identify trends, drive continuous improvement, and justify strategic investments in safety.

  • Leadership & Mentoring: Proven experience in leading and developing HSE professionals. The ideal candidate will be a mentor who can build a high-performing team and foster a culture of safety excellence throughout the site.

  • Project Management Excellence: Experience leading complex, cross-functional projects from conception to completion, delivering measurable improvements in safety, and managing budgets effectively.
