Job Description

Job Description:

The Global Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Manager, Sustainability Regulatory Compliance Program, leads regulatory change management for packaging compliance across Europe, North America, and Australia. This role serves as the regulatory knowledge hub within Mars Food & Nutrition, ensuring adherence to evolving regulations while advancing the company’s sustainability vision through collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners.

The Global Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Manager possesses in-depth expertise in sustainability regulations across Europe, North America, and Australia, including packaging composition, labelling, environmental claims, and product communication. Leveraging technical, project management, change management, and problem-solving skills, the role operates with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility. The Manager collaborates extensively with internal stakeholders—such as R&D, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Activity Management and Scientific & Regulatory Affairs—at global and market level, as well as with external partners. By providing leadership and strategic guidance on regulatory matters, the role influences stakeholder positions, ensures alignment with business and functional objectives, and proactively introduces regulatory scenarios to safeguard the company’s license to operate and drive innovation.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor and interpret global sustainable packaging and environmental claims regulations, ensuring timely compliance across regions.

  • Maintain a regulatory change tracker, assess business impacts, and embed regulatory changes into processes.

  • Provide expert guidance to R&D, local SRA, and business units, supporting innovation, renovation and environmental claims substantiation.

  • Identify regulatory risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Horizon Scanning

  • Lead horizon scanning to identify and assess upcoming regulatory changes affecting the division.

  • Communicate relevant regulatory developments and trends to stakeholders and transition issues to advocacy or change management as needed.

Program management and Implementation

  • Integrate current and emerging regulations into R&D strategies for product, claims, and labelling.

  • Drive implementation across the segment, promoting harmonized practices to reduce regulatory divergence.

  • Deliver training programs and maintain audit-ready documentation.

Stakeholder management

  • Act as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for sustainable packaging and claims regulations.

  • Represent SRA in cross-functional teams and support advocacy with trade associations.

  • Build and maintain strong internal and external regulatory networks.

What are we looking for?

  • Master’s degree (preferred) in Environmental Science, Packaging/Chemical/Food Engineering, Sustainability, Regulatory Affairs, Food Law, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated several years of experience in Packaging Sustainability, Regulatory Affairs, or Environmental Compliance, ideally within FMCG, food & beverage, personal/home care, chemicals, or consumer goods sectors.

  • Proficiency in green claims regulatory assessments and sustainability labelling requirements in at least one key region (Europe or North America).

  • In-depth knowledge of packaging development and global packaging/sustainability legislation, including EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), USA Federal/State Packaging Laws, and global recyclability standards.

  • Proven track record in managing regulatory compliance change management programs involving multiple product aspects (e.g., FCM, labelling, claims) and reporting obligations across various markets.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement competencies.

  • Fluent in English; proficiency in another European language is an asset.

What can you expect from Mars?

  • Work with diverse and talented Associates, all guided by the Five Principles.

  • Join a purpose driven company, where we’re striving to build the world we want tomorrow, today.

  • Best-in-class learning and development support from day one, including access to our in-house Mars University.

  • An industry competitive salary and benefits package, including company bonus.
