Role Title: Consumer Insights Lead
Location: Melbourne, Vic

Hours: Full-time, permanent – this is a 12 month parental leave cover contract

Reporting to: Consumer & Market Insights Director - Mars Pet Nutrition Australia

The Consumer Insights Lead is accountable for driving competitive advantage for Mars Petcare via the delivery of superior and compelling consumer insights to unlock strategies that drive growth across our portfolio of core brands. This will be achieved through influencing key business decisions with data and insights at the portfolio and brand level.

Via a deep understanding of how the Pet Parent experiences all touch points of our brands, this role will provide actionable recommendations to stimulate, guide and influence our portfolio growth strategy and optimise all consumer touch points. Using multiple sources of data and qualitative information, the Consumer Insights Manager will identify, understand, and quantify key sources of growth and risks to the business over both the short and long term.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and execute complex and challenging insights projects focussed upon growing our core brand portfolio including; Brand Equity; Distinctiveness ; Communication Effectiveness; Packaging Effectiveness; Sizing of Market Opportunities

  • Build a deep understanding of how the consumer experiences our brands and products using insights capabilities and use state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose tools and methodologies

  • Share a thorough understanding of how brands grow, together with a comprehensive knowledge of the consumer this role champions

  • Identify potential new growth opportunities and ways to enhance existing strategies.

  • Translate consumer information into clear strategic recommendations, in order to broadly communicate a succinct, compelling strategic point of view

  • Assess the potential of core growth opportunities and help the business to prioritize these based on consumer appeal.

  • Support advanced analytics projects, managing analysis of findings; including detailed market forecasts, pet ownership trends, and drivers of performance

  • Manage the overarching Research Strategy of business categories to ensure accessibility and visibility of insights to the broader organisation

  • Pioneer new and innovative approaches for consumer insight generation

What you need to bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in either Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Data Science

  • 4+ years experience in roles that required consumer insight generation, market research design and measurement, and a strong quantitative and/or qualitative background in consumer insights, category, or market research ideally gained in an FMCG or retail/grocery business

  • 4+ years working experience with sales data such as Circana, Quantium, Synergy is well regarded

  • A proven track record of working in teams to successfully translate consumer insights into action that deliver results;

  • Skills in presenting to and engaging with senior leaders or strategic forums, simplifying complex concepts and strategies that assist brand and business growth

  • Astute commercial and financial skills with a strong understanding of brand positioning, strategy and growth, understanding the impacts of decisions on the P&L

  • Proven track record of working in innovative ways, piloting new approaches, tools and methodologies
