The Transport Supervisor – Container Operations is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all container transport activities, with a strong focus on port collections, container deliveries, turnaround times, compliance, and operational efficiency. The role ensures the smooth movement of containers from port to customer destinations while maintaining high service levels, safety standards, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management

  • Supervise daily container transport operations and ensure efficient movement of containers from the port to delivery points.

  • Coordinate container collections and deliveries in line with customer requirements and booking schedules.

  • Monitor truck movements, turnaround times, detention periods, and operational performance.

  • Ensure optimal vehicle utilisation and route planning to maximise efficiency.

  • Liaise with drivers, planners, customers, depots, shipping lines, and port authorities regarding operational requirements.

  • Manage and monitor loading and offloading schedules to minimise delays.

  • Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately and submitted timeously.

Fleet & Driver Supervision

  • Supervise drivers and subcontractors to ensure adherence to operational procedures and company policies.

  • Conduct driver briefings and ensure all drivers understand daily operational requirements.

  • Monitor driver performance, attendance, productivity, and compliance.

  • Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and maintenance issues are reported promptly.

  • Investigate and report vehicle incidents, damages, and delays.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with road transport legislation, port regulations, and company safety standards.

  • Monitor adherence to container handling procedures and cargo security requirements.

  • Ensure all permits, licenses, and supporting documentation are valid and available.

  • Promote a strong safety culture within the transport operation.

Customer Service

  • Maintain effective communication with customers regarding delivery updates, delays, and service issues.

  • Resolve operational queries and escalate unresolved matters where necessary.

  • Ensure customer service standards and delivery commitments are consistently achieved.

Reporting & Administration

  • Prepare daily operational reports and KPI tracking.

  • Monitor fuel usage, trip performance, and operational costs.

  • Maintain accurate transport and fleet records.

  • Assist the Transport Manager with operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Management of delivery management program DMS

  • Managing standing and offloading times at various destinations

  • Report on billing and billing verification on operational execution monthly

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Someone with:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.

  • Diploma or qualification in Transport, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management will be advantageous.

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in transport operations, with strong exposure to container transport and port operations.

  • Knowledge of port procedures, container movement processes, and transport compliance requirements.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and transport management systems.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Good understanding of transport legislation and safety requirements.

  • Good understanding of port operations as well as the lead times provided by port.

  • Through understanding of port release and port operations i.e. block releases.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Container depot operations.

  • Last free day management of containers as well as reporting and management of Free days.

  • Supplier management of dedicated transporters.

  • OTD management within times allocated and provided.

  • Solution driven.
