Job Description
Team Lead – Marine Procurement (Consumables, Safety & Provisions)
Role overview:
As a key player in this role, you'll play a vital part in driving top-notch supplier performance and implementing effective planning strategies to mitigate risks and generate tangible cost savings.
Your success in the Marine Procurement function will rely heavily on your ability to foster and nurture key stakeholder relationships, navigate negotiations skillfully, manage tail spend contracts efficiently, and exhibit strong leadership within your team. Additionally, you'll hold the critical responsibility of upholding strict adherence to company policies and practices across the Marine Procurement function and among our suppliers. This includes maintaining compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations, Anti-Bribery and Corruption guidelines, Ethical trading policies, and Anti-Money Laundering policies.
Consistently upholding high standards of quality, performance, and productivity will be paramount to your success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Category Head to formulate and execute the Category Buying strategy, engaging with relevant teams and Fleet Managers to deliver value and efficiency for the business. Provide essential support to the managed fleet of vessels, including Purchasing, Dry Dock, New Building, and Fleet Technology teams.
- Exercise leadership, coordination, and coaching to empower your team to excel in their roles, achieving operational and financial metrics within their fleets. Establish, cultivate, and maintain exceptional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to enable performance and delivery, sometimes challenging business demand and procurement practices to enhance value and efficiency.
- Set and drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through collaboration with various teams and market analysis, monitoring them in real-time and making necessary adjustments to optimize costs and continuously improve the delivery of goods and services. Assume responsibility for the annual Technical Procurement budget and forecasts, promptly identifying, escalating, and resolving anomalies.
- Communicate proactively and transparently with stakeholders regarding the impact of market changes/conditions on Marine Procurement operations and activities, offering solutions that prioritize quality and cost optimization. Lead the planning and execution of Framework Agreements and General Service Contracts for all vendors and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in alignment with the Category Head/Strategy and input from Legal, Finance, and relevant departments.
- Actively champion and support the implementation of automation as part of the Digital Agenda. Represent the team in Key and Strategic Forums, providing constructive feedback to drive business success. Take on the responsibility of training and mentoring junior staff on a day-to-day basis.
- Drive Supplier Performance Management tasks and guide your team in actively participating in contract management for tail spend agreements. Optimize sourcing decisions by proposing alternatives in complex situations to resolve vessel urgencies at the lowest cost and with minimal risk.
- Collaborate closely with Master data teams to enhance the quality of back-end data and propose changes as needed. Challenge the status quo by participating in the development and suggestion of new suppliers to expand our global coverage, particularly regarding delivery experience at respective ports.
- Provide feedback on pricing to preferred suppliers in line with market dynamics (Supply/Demand) and work with Category Managers for their involvement. Comply with Maersk's carbon-neutral initiative, actively contributing to minimizing carbon emissions in our supply chains.
Skills needed:

- Excellent analytical skills - Collecting, analysing, and presenting data.

- Good understanding of procurement practices and principles.
- Team player with problem solving abilities and a drive for results.
- Good understanding of basic finance and accounting principles to control budget and costs.
- Experience in the marine industry is necessary.
Qualification:
