Job Description

Maersk, the world’s largest integrated logistics company, is transforming how goods move across continents - and at the heart of that shift is data infrastructure. We are building MIDAS, a modern, federated, metadata-driven data platform engineered for composability, governance, and AI-readiness.

We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead platform engineering efforts for MIDAS - designing and scaling a multi-tenant, real-time, contract-first data platform that spans hundreds of internal systems and supports critical customer and operational use cases.

This is not just a leadership role. It’s a once-in-a-decade opportunity to build the foundational data and AI architecture for an entire industry.

🏗 What You’ll Lead and Architect

  • Contract-Driven Data Pipelines powered by Apache Iceberg, Kafka, and Airflow with CI/CD for ingestion and transformation logic
  • Policy-as-Code Frameworks using OPA/Rego for automated enforcement of ABAC, retention, masking, and lineage propagation
  • Multi-Modal Metadata Plane integrating OpenMetadata or DataHub for discoverability, glossary, certification, and observability
  • Data Mesh Enablement for 300+ domain teams through onboarding blueprints, QuickStart DAGs, SLOs, and governance scaffolds
  • AI/ML Infrastructure Foundation – feature store integration, model monitoring hooks, ML lineage tracking, and model artifact versioning
  • Scalable Runtime Architecture supporting containerized deployments, tenant isolation, RBAC, and declarative ownership models

You will also define the engineering strategy for GenAI enablement, with LLM-based copilots and inference patterns backed by real-time streaming and vector-indexed feature stores.

🌍 Scale & Complexity You’ll Tackle

  • 20M+ containers, 700+ vessels, 100K+ customers across 130+ countries
  • $4 trillion of global GDP flows through Maersk's digital backbone
  • 300+ business applications with heterogeneous schemas and integration models
  • Cross-functional federation involving Ops, TradeLens, GDA, Corp, TbM, and more
  • Mission-critical workloads: ETA predictions, vessel tracking, customer order visibility, emissions analytics, and autonomous logistics intelligence

🤝 You’ll Work With

  • Engineering Leaders across Platform, Observability, AI/ML, Cybersecurity
  • Data Product Owners, Principal Architects, SteerCo Governance SMEs
  • Executive sponsors including VP of Platform Engineering, CTO, and CDO orgs
  • Teams distributed across EU, US, and India, with strong product collaboration

🧠 Your Background

  • 12–15 years in engineering, with 5+ leading platform or data infra teams at scale
  • Proven architecture and delivery of internal data platforms, preferably supporting both batch + streaming
  • Deep experience in data governance, contract testing, and schema evolution workflows
  • Familiarity with tools like Iceberg, Delta, OpenMetadata, Kafka, Spark, MLflow, Feast, Airflow, dbt, or Dagster
  • Built or scaled ML platform components (e.g., feature stores, training pipelines, model registries) a major plus
  • Strong contributor to high-trust engineering culture and operational rigor (metrics, SLOs, RFCs, architecture councils)

🚀 What This Role Offers

Greenfield Engineering – define and build the foundational data platform with autonomy and architectural freedom
AI/ML Future Scope – own the technical ramp toward scalable, governed, AI-driven supply chain intelligence
Executive-Level Influence – work directly with VPs and the CTO org; shape the future of logistics technology
Career-Defining Impact – contribute to an industry-wide digital transformation with global-scale visibility and outcomes
Global Mission with Purpose – help decarbonize and optimize global trade through data and systems excellence

🧱 Why This Role is a Rare Opportunity

Redefine a Century-Old Industry with Data
Logistics is being redefined. With over $20 trillion in goods flowing through our networks, Maersk's transformation is a generational shift - and data is at the heart of it. Your work will impact how ships are routed, containers are tracked, emissions are reduced, and customers experience the global supply chain.

Platform-Led Execution, Not Just Analytics
MIDAS is an engineering-first initiative - it draws from modern data mesh principles, builds for scale and interoperability, and focuses on governed, discoverable, self-service data products that support both operational and analytical use cases.

You’ll Own the Foundation for AI at Maersk
AI is a strategic focus. Your team will lay the foundation to support use cases like:

  • LLM copilots for internal operations
  • AI-driven ETA predictions
  • AI agents for customer service
  • ML models for fuel optimization, disruption recovery, and carbon footprint estimation

Executive-Level Impact
This role is embedded within Tech organisations, with direct exposure to VP-level stakeholders across Platform Engineering, Cybersecurity, Governance, Data Office, and Business Platforms. You’ll shape the delivery strategy and operating model for a multi-year transformation.
