Job description

Take a leading role in delivering Maersk’s next generation of vessels!

You will combine naval architecture expertise with hands-on project management, steering complex newbuilding activities from early design and specification through construction and delivery.

Maersk is transforming its fleet through new technologies, new fuels and ambitious requirements for safety, efficiency and sustainability. You will join Fleet Technology in Copenhagen and work directly with shipyards, designers, classification societies, equipment makers, site teams and specialists across Maersk.

At Maersk, we believe in the power of diversity, collaboration and continuous learning, and we work hard to ensure that the people in our organisation reflect and understand the customers we exist to serve.

About the role

This is a project delivery role with a strong naval architecture foundation. You will lead and coordinate engineering work across disciplines, turn technical findings into clear recommendations and help mature key matters towards timely project decisions. Your judgement will influence vessels from the drawing board until they enter service.

What you will do

  • Lead naval architecture and newbuilding project activities from concept development and specification through detailed design, construction and delivery.
  • Plan, coordinate and follow up engineering activities, interfaces, risks and decisions across project teams, shipyards and site offices.
  • Drive design reviews, plan approval topics, technical evaluations and trade-off studies with internal and external partners.
  • Continuously challenge how we can make our vessels safer, smarter, more efficient and more sustainable.
  • Translate technical analyses into clear recommendations that enable well-informed decisions.
  • Act as a naval architecture subject matter expert while building alignment across disciplines and organisations.
  • Contribute to major conversions, fleet optimisation and strategic technology initiatives alongside our newbuilding portfolio.
  • Support and share knowledge with colleagues in a collaborative environment with flat team structures and a strong sense of shared ownership.

What we are looking for

  • A degree in Naval Architecture and 5+ years of relevant experience in ship design, newbuilding or maritime engineering.
  • Proven project management experience from ship newbuilding or major conversion projects, gained with a shipowner, shipyard, designer, consultancy or classification society.
  • Experience taking engineering work from concept and specification into detailed design and execution.
  • A solid understanding of vessel design, ideally including areas such as stability, structural, statutory or classification requirements.
  • Experience with technical specifications, design reviews and/or plan approval.
  • The ability to coordinate multidisciplinary work, manage technical risks and keep complex activities moving forward.
  • Sound engineering judgement, a collaborative working style and clear written and spoken English.

It is an advantage if you also have

  • Direct experience working with shipyards during newbuilding design and construction.
  • Experience with design optimisation and technical trade-off studies balancing performance, cost and project constraints.
  • Knowledge of container vessel hull structure, lashing and cargo systems, outfitting or accommodation design.
  • Experience coordinating, supporting or mentoring other engineers.

Why join us?

Few roles offer this combination of technical depth, project ownership and direct influence on large newbuilding programmes.

You will see projects develop from an initial idea into vessels operating in global service, working in an international engineering environment where technical discussion, collaboration and ownership are valued.

If you enjoy solving ship-design challenges and want to take an active role in delivering Maersk’s future fleet, we would like to hear from you.

Maersk is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we embrace different styles of thinking. Maersk is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants without regard to race, colour, gender, sex, age, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy or parental leave, veteran status, gender identity, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
