
L&S Assistant Procurement Manager - Linehaul and Cartage
Job Description
As a Procurement professional, you will play a key role in driving strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier partnerships, and purchasing excellence across the organization. You will be responsible for identifying cost-saving opportunities, leading sourcing and contract negotiations, optimizing procurement processes, and ensuring the timely acquisition of goods and services that support business operations. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams, influence business decisions, and contribute to continuous improvement in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy & Governance
- Deploy and own the Linehaul procurement strategy aligned with network design, volume forecasts, and service requirements.
- Establish procurement governance, rate discipline, and contract standardization across the linehaul network.
- Drive annual savings, cost avoidance, and productivity improvements.
Strategic Sourcing & Contracting
- Lead large-scale RFPs, tenders, and auctions using digital sourcing tools (e.g., Keelvar).
- Negotiate commercial frameworks with core and regional linehaul providers.
- Ensure the majority of linehaul spend is covered by robust, compliant contracts.
Supplier & Capacity Management
- Develop strategic partnerships with key linehaul carriers.
- Ensure capacity readiness for peak seasons and network changes.
- Monitor supplier performance, financial health, and service reliability.
Network Optimization & Execution
- Partner with Network, Operations, and Product teams to support route optimization, linehaul balancing, and asset utilization.
- Support new lanes, hubs, and structural network changes from a procurement standpoint.
Digital Enablement & Analytics
- Drive adoption of advanced sourcing and optimization tools (e.g., Keelvar).
- Improve spend transparency, award logic, and data-driven decision-making.
- Leverage analytics to support sourcing strategies and carrier mix decisions.
Stakeholder Leadership
- Act as a senior procurement partner to Operations, Network, Commercial, and Finance leadership.
- Support customer solutions and pricing strategies with linehaul cost intelligence.

- Annual linehaul savings and cost avoidance

- Capacity coverage vs. forecasted demand
- Tender and auction utilization rate (Keelvar)
- Carrier performance vs. SLAs
- Network cost per mile / per shipment
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, preferably within transportation procurement and/or transportation operations.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and experience creating presentations and reporting in PowerPoint.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Professional, approachable, and task-oriented personality.
- Ability to serve as a liaison with terminal managers and business stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel regionally as needed.
Salary: $80,000 - $90,000*

* The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for this position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
