Job Description

At Maersk, we are leading a transformative journey to simplify global trade, creating meaningful impact for our customers, communities, and people. As part of our Maersk Customs Services (MCS) organization, you will play a key role in enabling seamless inland connectivity across Central Africa.

We are looking for a proactive and detail‑oriented Hinterland Associate to support and execute hinterland operations from Cameroon to neighboring countries, including Chad and the Central African Republic. In this role, you will ensure compliant, efficient, and timely execution of inland cargo movements by road and rail, while working closely with internal teams, customs authorities, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute end‑to‑end hinterland operations, covering road and rail movements from customs declaration validation through truck and wagon release.
  • Collect, verify, and validate all required documentation for hinterland and transit operations (DAU, invoices, BL, packing lists, certificates, exemptions, and special permits).
  • Ensure full compliance with customs, regulatory, and Maersk operational standards, anticipating country‑ and product‑specific requirements.
  • Coordinate with declaration, customs, rail (CAMRAIL), and other authorities to ensure smooth clearance and release of trucks and wagons.
  • Manage transit guarantees, customs bonds, and bond releases in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Track and monitor operations in real time, maintaining accurate updates in operational systems and tools.
  • Identify and escalate operational blockages promptly, proposing clear and practical resolution actions.
  • Maintain accurate daily operational trackers, documenting delays, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Support financial discipline by tracking operational expenses, validating supporting documents, and collaborating with Finance and FinOps teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, SOP updates, audits, and process optimization across Hinterland operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Import, Export, Declaration, Risk & Compliance, Customer Experience, Sales, and external partners to ensure delivery excellence.
  • Support ad‑hoc assignments and operational deployments to other locations (e.g., Kribi, Ngaoundéré) when required.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Practical experience in inland logistics, transit, customs clearance, or hinterland operations.
  • Solid understanding of customs procedures, transit regimes, and hinterland operations, including rail and road corridors.
  • Familiarity with operational systems and tools used in logistics and customs operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple operational tasks simultaneously.
  • Proactive problem‑solver with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills in French, with English proficiency being an advantage.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross‑functional and multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to support operations, including occasional extended hours and site visits when required.
  • High level of integrity, with strong adherence to HSSE standards, compliance, and the Maersk Code of Conduct.
