A career at Maersk means working in a culturally diverse, performance stimulating environment. You’ll be part of a rich heritage and an exuberant logistics company that aims to be an inspiring and challenging place to work. You will feel the diversity and dynamics of our international business from day one. We commit to providing the best possible development and career growth to all our employees through digitalized learning ways in order to keep them up to date with development of technological changes.

About the Role: As Maersk continues to evolve as a global integrator of logistics, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our people, customers, and partners remains a top priority. We are seeking a seasoned, self-driven, and visionary Area Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead this critical function across our Pakistan Area (PKA) landside Logistics & Services (L&S) portfolio, including warehouses, depots, and transportation activities. This role blends operational oversight and risk management to safeguard our people, assets, and supply chain integrity. Reporting to the Regional Head of Safety & Resilience (S&R) for India, Middle East & Africa (IMEA), this key leadership role is responsible for building the Area HSE structure and framework, identifying risks, implementing controls, and driving continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with business leaders to embed HSE strategies into decision-making and operations, aligned with Maersk’s global standards and regional priorities.

You will ensure compliance with regulatory and customer standards, strengthen preparedness through training, audits, and proactive risk management, and align all efforts with Maersk’s broader business objectives. Operating in a matrixed environment, you’ll foster cross-functional collaboration and contribute to strategic problem-solving.

As Area Head, you will lead a team of functional experts, champion operational excellence, and cultivate a culture of accountability, integrity, care, and resilience. We are looking for a strong people leader who thrives in dynamic, complex environments, navigates matrixed organizations with confidence, and is ready to make a lasting impact on HSE across the Area.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of HSE functional experts across the Area, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, integrity, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance the Area HSE framework for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks impacting people and operations
  • Ensure local implementation and compliance with APMM’s Global HSE standards, considering area-specific regulations, local context, and international best practices.
  • Drive the Area’s HSE improvement plan in alignment with global and regional objectives.
  • Ensure strong alignment between business and functional priorities, creating cohesive strategies that support both operational excellence and HSE objectives
  • Facilitate HSE governance, including Area management reviews, performance reporting, and defined improvement targets
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with S&R and APMM teams to deliver practical tools, expert guidance, and assurance programs that effectively address frontline risks and close compliance gaps
  • Stay ahead of industry trends by actively seeking external inspiration, bringing innovative and context-relevant ideas into the HSE strategy, and translating them into actionable insights
  • Inspire, champion, and engage teams, both directly and indirectly managed—to elevate HSE standards across all operations, promoting a culture of care, psychological safety, inclusion, transparency, and openness
  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders, influence decision-making through data and risk-based insights, and support business case development
  • Ensure robust HSE input and oversight in growth and integration initiatives, including risk assessments and compliance, embedding HSE into every stage of change
  • Build capability within the HSE function, ensuring teams are appropriately skilled, qualified, and continuously upskilled
  • Manage functional budgets (SG&A), ensuring effective allocation and cost control

Key Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in leading HSE teams, with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in Health, Safety & Environment, including at least 8 years in senior leadership roles within matrixed, multicultural, and multi-geographical environments—preferably within logistics, supply chain, or related industries
  • A degree in a related engineering discipline and a recognized formal OHS/Environment/Risk Management qualification, with strong functional knowledge of health, safety, environmental risk management, regulatory compliance, and ISO standards
  • Recognized auditing qualification and experience as an internal auditor are desirable. Third-party auditing experience would be an advantage
  • Proven experience in conducting formal incident investigations
  • Experience in Emergency Preparedness, Crisis Management, and Business Continuity
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and deploying behavioral safety programs to address health and psychosocial risks are desirable
  • Solid understanding of HSE governance and operational excellence, with experience applying best practices in general management and compliance
  • Knowledge of logistics and supply chain operations is essential, with a strong understanding of dynamic, fast-paced environments

Key Skills:

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, capable of building trust, influence, and alignment across all levels of the organization and operating locations
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Highly self-driven and accountable, with a demonstrated ability to drive initiatives while balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution
  • Executive presence and confidence, with the ability to represent the function at a senior level and drive meaningful conversations around risk, resilience, and performance.
  • Strong strategic and organizational acumen, combined with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide cross-functional teams
  • A values-driven individual who cultivates a culture of safety, integrity, inclusiveness, and resilience
  • Able to work autonomously, make decisions under pressure, and lead through ambiguity
