Job Summary:

EY works with the world’s largest Private Equity funds supporting them to acquire, transform and sell assets. EY’s Private Equity sector has revenues of £500 million in the UK (£1 billion globally) with significant forecasted growth each year for the next 3 years.

A number of our largest UK headquartered PE groups (eg CVC, Apax, Premira, Bridgepoint, Cinven) are required to adhere to SEC and other Independence restrictions. This in turn requires EY to protect the firm through proactive monitoring and managing all proposed engagements and business relationships across all service lines (SaT, Tax, Assurance and Advisory) with those PE groups (including at all portfolio entities controlled by the PE group worldwide) to ensure that we comply with all SEC/EU/UK and EY independence requirements. Channel 1 account teams in Assurance are required to undertake similar independence monitoring activities.

Private Equity Compliance & Regulatory Management Senior Manager

  • Take a leading role in the PE account support team, liaising directly with the GCSPs.
  • Responsibility for supporting annual goals and oversight of the managers and L2s.
  • Teaming with CSPs and account teams, interact with senior client stakeholders, Private Equity management and C-suite levels to collect investee and transaction information and respond to queries.
  • Collaborate with risk management community to develop and lead training for GCSPs and wider Private Equity community regarding Independence technical application of regulations and policy.
  • Team and engage across service lines, industry sectors and geographies to develop services and client education of regulatory restrictions for PE accounts.
  • Sharing best practice and policy guidance to PE GCSPs, engagement partners and engagement teams to improve their understanding of independence requirements, enabling their focus on delivering permissible services and facilitate internal approvals.
  • Lead complex projects and assignments, or key aspects of assignments, for example, resolving issues relating to highly complex business or other relationships. Liaise with GCSP and central independence function on complex regulatory matters and co-ordinate a resolution.
  • Demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge and understanding of emerging knowledge, trends and lessons learned by applying key requirements of the SEC, UK and EU independence rules and firm policies as applicable to PE accounts and other Risk Management topics
  • Actively engage in required consultations with GCSPs on PE account Independence matters and ensure relevant stakeholders (including risk community) are involved to discuss and resolve complex issues
  • Identify related emerging risks and collaborate with the risk community to remedial solutions for new firm service offerings.
  • Represent the UK and wider European Private Equity community within the Centre of Excellence to share best practice and develop process efficiencies across firm networks.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of firm independence policies and regulators’ rules
  • Familiarity with other RM initiatives outside of specific Independence area
  • Requires a understanding of relevant firm business
  • Demonstrates pro-activity and thought leadership around specific disciplines
  • Ability to think strategically and handle complex concepts.
  • Problem solving across multiple service line, industry sector and geographic areas.
  • Ability to drive and adapt to change.
  • Ability to deliver tough messages to executive leaders within the firm
  • Strong communication skills as well as listening and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

Supervision Responsibilities:

This role will be supported by Managers, Consultants and GDS offshore support

Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a risk / compliance function or experience working in assurance or one of our other service lines
  • Commercial awareness of the issues facing the business and the ability to deal with problems in a practical but thorough manner
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to balance a varied workload
