Job Description – Risk Consulting – Manager, Capital Markets
Digital assets in the UK are moving beyond pilots towards live products, operating models and market infrastructure. This shift is creating important strategic choices for financial institutions across banking, capital markets, payments, wealth and asset management, alongside significant transformation opportunities and new regulatory, operational and technology risks.
Within EY’s Financial Services Risk Consulting team, we are expanding our capability to help clients navigate this transition and turn market momentum into tangible outcomes. As a Manager, you will lead high-profile and complex engagements, take accountability for delivery quality and commercial performance, manage multidisciplinary teams and build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
The opportunity We are seeking a high-performing Manager to join our Non-Financial Risk Consulting team, with a focus on digital assets within Capital Markets. You will shape and lead complex client engagements, helping financial institutions design and implement proportionate governance, risk and control frameworks across emerging digital asset products, services and operating models.
You will work at the intersection of innovation and risk, acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders on governance, regulatory compliance, operational resilience and non-financial risk across digital asset ecosystems. You will also play an active role in growing EY’s digital assets proposition through business development, market insight, thought leadership and the development of our people and capabilities.
Your key responsibilities You will be accountable for leading high-quality risk and regulatory engagements, delivering practical outcomes for clients and supporting the continued growth of our business.
Key aspects of the role include:
Lead complex digital asset risk and regulatory engagements from scoping through to delivery, managing quality, timelines, budgets, risks and client expectations.
Act as a trusted adviser to senior client stakeholders on non-financial risk frameworks for digital assets, including governance, risk taxonomies, control environments and accountability models.
Lead the design and implementation of risk and control frameworks across digital asset lifecycle processes, including issuance, trading, custody, settlement and reporting, with a particular focus on Capital Markets.
Direct assessments of digital asset process flows and operating models, identifying key risks, control gaps and practical opportunities for enhancement.
Oversee the evaluation and mapping of client journeys across digital asset use cases, including digital asset wallets, stablecoin issuance, integration into wealth management platforms and tokenisation of traditional assets.
Advise clients on target operating models and proportionate control environments for digital asset businesses and capital markets activities.
Lead risk assessments across trading, custody, issuance and other use cases, clearly articulating how risk exposures and control requirements vary.
Help clients interpret and implement relevant global regulatory requirements, translating regulatory expectations into practical governance and control solutions.
Mobilise and coordinate EY specialists across risk, technology, regulation and compliance to deliver integrated client solutions.
Manage, coach and develop junior team members, setting clear expectations, reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback.
Build and maintain trusted client relationships, communicate complex findings clearly and manage challenging stakeholder discussions.
Identify opportunities to extend existing engagements and contribute to proposals, pitches, account planning and the development of new digital asset offerings.
Skills and attributes for success You will combine strong knowledge of digital assets and capital markets with the ability to lead teams, manage complex engagements and build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders. You will demonstrate sound judgement, commercial awareness and a clear focus on delivery quality. You will be comfortable operating in ambiguous and rapidly evolving environments, structuring complex problems and translating regulatory and risk issues into practical actions for clients.
To qualify for the role you must have
Significant relevant experience in consulting, financial services or a comparable professional environment, including responsibility for leading workstreams or engagements.
A strong track record of managing teams and delivering high-quality work within agreed timelines and budgets.
Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and presenting complex analysis, findings and recommendations clearly and confidently.
Strong Capital Markets knowledge, including the trade lifecycle, market infrastructure and relevant asset classes.
A strong understanding of the digital assets ecosystem, including cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, tokenised assets, blockchain fundamentals and distributed ledger technologies.
Experience designing, implementing or assessing risk taxonomies, governance arrangements and control frameworks for digital assets.
Knowledge of end-to-end digital asset processes, including trading and execution, custody and wallet management, settlement and reconciliation, and lifecycle management.
A strong understanding of operational, technology, cyber, fraud, financial crime, regulatory, market and liquidity risks, and the controls used to manage them.
Experience mapping and analysing client journeys, processes and operating models within financial services.
Familiarity with relevant global digital asset regulation and supervisory expectations, including MiCA, UK regulatory developments, HKMA guidance and emerging US frameworks.
The ability to translate regulatory expectations and complex risk issues into practical governance, process and control solutions.
Commercial awareness and experience contributing to proposals, pitches, account development or the growth of client relationships.
The ability to independently structure ambiguous problems, exercise sound judgement and manage multiple priorities.
Experience reviewing and assuring the quality of work produced by others.
Ideally, you’ll also have
Experience across Capital Markets, Wealth and Asset Management, Banking, Payments or Financial Market Infrastructure.
Prior consulting experience in risk, regulation, compliance, technology or digital transformation.
Exposure to digital asset platforms, exchanges, custodians, tokenisation initiatives, fintechs or other market participants.
Experience developing methodologies, propositions, thought leadership or market-facing insights.
Relevant professional, risk, regulatory or project management qualifications.
A constructive, action-oriented and inclusive leadership style.
What we look for We are looking for an experienced risk professional who combines credible knowledge of Capital Markets, DLT and digital asset products with strong consulting and leadership skills. You will be able to shape an approach, mobilise a team and maintain delivery momentum while building confidence with senior clients. You will bring an inclusive and collaborative leadership style, a commitment to developing others and the commercial judgement to identify where EY can deliver further value.
You will demonstrate:
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
The confidence to lead in ambiguous and rapidly evolving environments.
Commercial awareness and the ability to link risk insights to client and business value.
Clear, concise and influential written and verbal communication.
