The UK Legal team is well established and highly regarded. Led by our General Counsel, Lisa Cameron, we comprise 36 lawyers supported by 4 paralegals. The UK Legal team also forms part of a Global legal function.

The Opportunity

We have a vacancy for a legal executive or senior paralegal to support the GCO Commercial team. The Commercial team is currently comprised of 12 lawyers and the legal executive, or senior paralegal will be an integral part of that team providing day to day assistance and support.

The work will be varied but will include:

  • initial triage of legal queries from personnel working on client services, procurements, alliances and other commercial or contracting matters;
  • creating and maintaining playbooks for managing processes and protocols related to commercial and contracting matters;
  • supporting the identification, adoption and use of artificial intelligence within the legal team (particularly relating to contracting matters);
  • project management for commercial matters (for example negotiations with clients and suppliers); and
  • general administrative support to lawyers working on commercial contracting and associated matters.

There will also be the opportunity to support the legal team in other areas including legal research and drafting, tracking of legal developments and management of know-how.

The role includes a varied and demanding workload and we are looking for someone to support our EY All in Strategy by showing curiosity, intelligence, and energy.

Please note that this vacancy is a legal executive or senior paralegal role and will not lead to a training contract or count towards qualifying work experience (QWE) for the purposes of SQE qualification.

Essential requirements for the role

  • Law degree or non-law degree, ideally followed by successful completion of law conversion course (LPC, BPTC or SQE1/SQE2).
  • Significant UK experience as a legal executive or senior paralegal, focused on a wide range of in‑house commercial agreements, with contracts forming the core of day‑to‑day responsibilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of the commercial contracting process.
  • Demonstrable experience in working on a broad range of commercial legal matters.
  • Strong personal communication skills, including oral/written communication, capable of dealing with wide range of people at all levels.
  • Good drafting skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player who is both committed and flexible.
  • Strong organisation, planning and project management skills.
  • Ability to take responsibility and ownership of tasks and to be proactive.
  • Proficient IT skills including document management systems and the Microsoft office suite in a corporate setting and, ideally experience of using artificial intelligence.
  • Ability to prioritise, problem-solve and show good time management skills.
  • Ability to work with autonomy.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • The ability to keep calm in a crisis and to cope well with conflicting deadlines.
  • The ability to deal with problems in a practical and common-sense way, with limited supervision.
