Commissioning Editor - Books
Job Description
Are you passionate about publishing and driving real-world impact through scholarly content? Emerald Publishing is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Commissioning Editor (Books) to join our team.
As a Commissioning Editor, you will manage and develop an allocated portfolio, focusing on commissioning high-quality content. You will foster and manage editor relationships for standalone titles and serials, ensuring alignment with subject areas and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of Emerald’s real-world content strategy.
Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.
Day to day we’ll trust you to:
- Commission and manage a diverse portfolio of books.
- Build and maintain strong editor relationships.
- Expand networks within relevant subject communities.
- Act as an advocate for the imprint and Emerald brand.
- Create strategic plans for your subject specialism.
You’ll need to have:
About You
You will possess excellent communication and commissioning skills, coupled with a robust knowledge of publishing and expertise in your allocated subject area. Your ability to expand your network and advocate for Emerald will be crucial in delivering impactful, real-world content.

Roles are advertised at a benchmarked market median rate. Offers will be made within a range of the median, depending on skills and experience.
