Lawyer / Law and Policy Advisor* (parental leave cover), Resources, Energy and Mobility

We have an opportunity to join ClientEarth’s Resources, Energy and Mobility (REM) System Group as a lawyer or law and policy advisor, as parental leave cover.

The REM System Group in Europe works to support a sustainability transition that allows present and future generations to live well within planetary boundaries, by enabling a high quality of life for all people without exceeding the Earth’s ecological limits.

This role is expected to focus on supporting our growing body of work related to local, city-level transformation – including urban mobility systems where reducing car dependence is a key goal – but also extending across a wide range of sectors and sustainability issues. There may also be opportunities to work on other areas of ClientEarth’s European programme alongside this.

Main duties

• Support the development and implementation of agreed litigation and advocacy projects within the team’s strategic framework, with a likely focus on local, city-level governance and urban mobility in Europe, working closely with the Mobility Team Lead and relevant colleagues
• Carry out legal research and analysis of complex information concerning relevant laws, policies and political developments
• Collaborate with partners, including NGOs and civil society organisations, technical experts and external lawyers, as well as policymakers and decision makers in a wide range of litigation and advocacy contexts, through exchanging information and supporting the development and delivery of project-level strategy, with guidance from senior colleagues.

Role requirements

• A degree in law and / or a professional legal practice qualification
• Experience working on urban mobility or local, city-level policy and governance, whether in a professional or academic context
• Experience of working in an international organisation, NGO, charity, law firm and / or for government
• Familiarity with environmental, human rights, administrative and / or public law
