Head of Resources, Energy and Mobility Japan and Southeast Asia
Job Description
The Head of Resources, Energy, Mobility (REM) Japan and Southeast Asia is accountable for delivering transformational change against Resources, Energy and Mobility and its intersections with three other systems: Food, Oceans, and Land Use (FOLU); Financial and Economic Systems; and Environmental Rights and Rule of Law. As a Regional System Head, this position leads a multi-disciplinary team across London, Brussels, Tokyo, Manila, Jakarta, Sydney, and the US, drawing expertise from across ClientEarth’s deep legal and jurisdictional expertise to create transformational change and impact.
This position operates under the wider mandate of the Acting Associate Director for Japan and Southeast Asia. As such, the post-holder leads initiatives that are primarily focused on Japan and Southeast Asia, while continuing to collaborate globally and embody the principles of “One ClientEarth”, driving global-level systemic change.
This position also has an important role in role-modelling ClientEarth’s values, rallying colleagues around a unified global strategy, and making a substantial contribution to regional and global programme strategy and decision-making, ensuring insights from Japan and Southeast Asia inform wider organisational priorities.
This role is a 6 month's contract role.

Main duties
- Define Regional System Strategy - Leads annual strategy implementation development during annual planning with respect to their system for their region
- Regional System Delivery - Line manages the Japan Representative, Lead Lawyers, Senior Lawyers and Programme Manager in the REM team to ensure delivery of REM workstreams, projects and activities in Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines and broader Southeast Asia employing the full range of ClientEarth’s tools, including advocacy and other legal interventions, building the field, and supporting partners local and regional partners

Role requirements
- Law degree focussing on Japanese or a Southeast Asian law
- Strategic leadership and management experience
- Experience of designing and managing programmatic work in the not-for-profit sector including project, team and financial management across different time zones
