MI Data Analyst
Location: remote working with travel to our Leicester site required once a month
We’re looking for a brilliant MI Data Analyst to join our team of colleagues in British Gas Business, that together are setting the standard in energy supply.

That’s why we need a brilliant MI Data Analyst to help us get to where we’re going. You’ll bring bags of energy, know-how and passion to our family of door-opening brands, including British Gas and Hive. And you’ll join a team who are just as focused delivering on fantastic results as you are.
Working within consumption management, the team support the imbalance, settlements, vacant and demolished and read utilisation processes. Day to day this involves running scripts to obtain data to support the wider team as well as developing new scripting and building MI reporting. In addition, you will collaborate closely with our offshore team sharing best practices.
Key Accountabilities:
- Communicate & present analysis in an appropriate format.
- Recommend and deliver operational & technical process or system enhancements to support settlement and imbalance delivery.
- Support and consult with the team across their range of operations that use; SAS, Hadoop, RStudio, MS Excel, VBA, Databricks, Python, Access, and SQL.
- Develops and scripts and reports / analysis to support the team, in accordance with technical, financial control & audit requirements.
- Provide management information for business performance monitoring.
- Develop controls and management information.
- Data mining, extraction, manipulation, and presentation.
To succeed in this role, you should be able to demonstrate experience in the Energy industry. Have a solid understanding of SQL and be familiar with varied data sources, data organisation, storage, relevant relational databases.
Basic knowledge of statistical methodologies and data analysis techniques is required. An eagerness to understand R and develop in Databricks using Python is a must.
You’ll have strong attention to detail when working with data to make accurate conclusions, predictions and be comfortable effectively collaborating with stakeholders.
Work Experience & Functional/Technical Skills:
- Data Analytics; SQL, Advanced Excel (Power Query, VBA) and Access.
- Knowledge of; UK Energy Industry, SAP/ISU and Marketflow.
- Traits; technically minded, adaptable, a strong desire to learn, can manage changing priorities effectively and excellent stakeholder engagement.
