Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

About your team:

At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.

We’re energy movers by nature. We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.

Centrica Energy is a leading European energy trading company with a global reach, operating out of eight offices across all time zones to move energy from source to use. Our mission is to drive the green transition while offering sustainable and predictable energy costs for suppliers and offtakers.

We currently trade gas across 20 countries and power across 28 European countries and the United States, whilst our LNG business has a global reach with cargoes delivered almost anywhere in the world.

The LNG analytics team are looking to recruit an LNG Trading Analyst Intern to join Centrica Energy’s LNG Business. Centrica is actively positioning itself to participate in the rapidly changing global LNG market. The Singapore-based LNG Analytics team sits at the heart of this ambition, with two main focus areas:

  • Short-term LNG Trading: Contributing towards P&L and cash delivery in the short-term through providing pro-active market trading analysis, bespoke insights into retail drivers (in particular China/Asia), coupled with excellent collaboration with key stakeholders across other front-office commodity functions in Centrica Energy

  • LNG Business Development: Structured deals’ analysis, ‘new market’ (for example Chinese/Asian/new markets) and global trading trends and counterpart/competitor analysis for mid to long-term deal making.

What you’ll be doing:

This is a 6-month placement for penultimate or final-year undergraduates or postgraduate students who want hands-on exposure to a front-office commodity trading environment. You will be embedded within the LNG Analytics team in Singapore, working alongside traders, analysts, and business developers on real commercial challenges from day one.

The LNG market moves quickly. You will support the team across analytical and commercial tasks, developing your capability while contributing meaningfully to the day-to-day work of the desk.

For Short-term Trading & Business Development:

  • Support P&L and exposure tracking, and learn how the Front Office connects with Product Control and Finance

  • Assist financial trading analysis (options, derivatives and financial engineering techniques) and asset-backed trading in the LNG space

  • Assist in maintaining tools and models used for LNG deal valuation and deal structure recommendations

  • Build front office tools to model trading opportunities as well as analyse pre-deal & post-deal evaluation of risk and reward

  • Gather, clean, and analyse LNG market data: cargo flows, shipping rates, spot prices, and regional demand indicators

  • Support pre-deal and structuring analysis

  • Support ad hoc quantitative analysis as required by traders or business developers

For LNG Team and Centrica Energy Leadership:

  • Work alongside teams including Quant Analytics, Finance and Risk, gaining exposure to how the broader LNG Analytics modelling capability is developed

  • Produce insights on LNG pricing data, exposure, P&L and news.

We have a few must-haves:

  • A hardworking, self-motivated attitude with a genuine eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Enrolled as a penultimate or final-year undergraduate, postgraduate student, or recently completed a degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Finance, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline

  • Solid Excel and spreadsheet skills, including financial modelling or quantitative coursework.

  • Python skills: comfortable with data manipulation (pandas, NumPy) and building analytical scripts

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with close attention to detail.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Familiarity with financial concepts: options, derivatives, or risk measures

and a few nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of or interest in Asian LNG and gas markets, in particular China, Japan, or South Korea

  • Any prior exposure to a trading or financial environment, for example Market Risk or Finance would be an advantage

  • Any prior exposure in supporting commercial decision making (including PnL and hedging monitoring) in a commodity trading environment would be an advantage

  • An awareness of valuing, pricing and understanding the risk and optionality embedded in LNG transactions and related derivative positions would be an advantage

What you will gain:

  • A grounding in global LNG and gas market fundamentals: supply chains, cargo economics, shipping, and pricing.

  • Exposure to commodity derivatives, options, and hedging as used in live trading decisions.

  • Practical Python and data skills applied to real market and commercial datasets.

  • First-hand understanding of how a front office, risk function, and finance team interact in a live energy trading business

  • A defined research or analytical project, presented to the team at the end of your placement.

  • Mentorship from a senior analyst throughout your placement, with structured check-ins and feedback.

Strong performers may be considered for a graduate analyst role upon completing their degree. The role is based in our Singapore office with four days in the office and one day working from home per week.
