Centrica Energy is hiring an Indirect Tax Manager for our Danish team based out of Aalborg and Copenhagen. Are you an experienced Tax professional with expert knowledge of indirect tax in an international context who would like to join an international team of energy professionals on a mission to provide sustainable and affordable energy? Then this role might be for you.

The role

You will be a part of the global tax team with the local Danish tax manager as your direct reference, focusing on the Danish entity and it’s subsidiaries mainly in Europe. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of all VAT returns for the operating unit prepared by finance colleagues and the global compliance outsource provider.

You will be expected to:

  • Deliver automated VAT compliance and enhanced processes and controls through the effective use of data, systems and technology.

  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of Centrica Energy Europe and of Danish and international indirect tax legislation, including customs and CBAM.

  • Ensure a robust control framework is established and maintained, maintaining governance and risk documentation.

  • Deliver training or other support to ensure Centrica Energy Europe remains compliant with all indirect tax obligations.

  • Support the management of indirect taxes in the wider Centrica group, as required.

Furthermore, you will lead on the indirect tax procedures and compliance while collaborating with the Tax Manager who will lead on business partnering, tax advice, tax controversy and local transfer pricing.

The team is based out of our headquarters in Aalborg thus you will be required to frequently travel to Aalborg if you are based out of Copenhagen.

About you

You can come from a number of different backgrounds, and you will be hired based on your skills and capabilities. We do however expect that you have:

  • A university degree on a relevant subject

  • At least 5 years of experience working with indirect taxes, preferably also experience with implementing VAT setups – in-house experience is an advantage

  • Technical knowledge of all Danish indirect taxes including VAT, special payroll tax, CBAM, duties and global reporting requirements

  • Experience of dealing with other European jurisdictions, particularly northern Europe

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling efficient interaction with Finance and other stakeholders (internal and external) and effective collaboration within and outside the tax team

  • Proven ability to take initiative/ownership of the issue and to achieve results under pressure and with imperfect/incomplete information

  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated

Experience managing indirect tax compliance and owning tax processes in a commodity trading environment is an advantage.
