Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

Make Your Move to Centrica Energy

Discover your full potential, accelerate your development and be part of making an impact at one of Europe’s largest energy trading companies with our Graduate Trading Analyst programme.

Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. It serves as the window out onto the international wholesale commodity markets. We trade LNG, gas, power and energy attributes - and connect independent producers, suppliers and corporate off-takers in the wholesale energy markets.

We’re a total of 850+ colleagues from over 50 different nationalities, located in 8 different offices around the world. At our London office, you’ll be joining our international office with over 200 dedicated energy specialists. In short we all ourselves ‘Energy Movers By Nature’.

Centrica Energy is an entrepreneurial and innovative business which is heavily dependent on quality analytics in an ever increasing digitalised and fast paced trading landscape to support commercial decision-making and risk management. Centrica Energy has developed a successful asset-backed trading business model where we apply algorithmic trading, automation and cutting-edge analytics to our growing cross commodity portfolio.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Graduate Trading Analyst, you’ll do three eight-month placements over two years, learning how to approach a variety of business problems by working alongside experienced subject matter experts. Each placement has its own unique set of challenges and provides you with a steep learning curve. You may also have the chance to spend a placement in Denmark.

You’ll work across a wide range of teams and functions, potentially including trading and optimisation, gas, power, LNG, origination, finance, risk and more. Throughout, you’ll be supporting key commercial decisions relating to both commodity contracts and trading strategies.

We’ll expect you to deliver real business results from your first placement onwards. To enable this, we are committed to supporting your on-the-job learning with formal behavioural and technical training and a structured performance management process.

We have a few must-haves:

We are looking for graduates who can use high-calibre analysis to influence key commercial business decisions. You must have:

  • Working towards or recently obtained a minimum 2:1 degree combined with a Master’s in a highly numerical subject such as Applied Economics, Computer Science, Engineering (e.g. Chemical, Mechanical, etc), Mathematics, Physics or similar
  • Understanding of and preferably experience in programming e.g. Python, Matlab, C, Java
  • Ability to work with models, make and test hypotheses and turn data into insightful information
  • Strong interest in the practical application of analytical techniques
  • High level of commercial awareness - focus on making money for the business
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Flexibility to undertake a placement in our Denmark office

Anticipated start dates for the programme are likely to be September 2025, however we may look at earlier start dates for candidates who have already graduated
